Have a full HD TV with Sky +, but would like to enjoy the Freesat HD channels rather than pay for Sky's HD service.

I understand Freesat can be received via my existing dish installed by Sky, so is there a large hard drive PVR that I can plug both Freeview and twin Sky feeds into and be able to record HD and SD pictures (one channel whilst watching another like Sky+) and obviously transfer to my DVD recorder at a later point should I wish.

Basically, what's the ideal set-up for my requirements?

Thanks for your help.

Bit confused as to how freeview comes into the equation.

If you stop paying yor sky subscription you will still get all fta (and ftv) including BBC HD and CH4 HD (to continue to record will cost you £10.00 a month. If you add (or replace with the only freesat pvr (foxsat-hdr) you will get BBC HD and ITV HD but won't get CH4 Hd (its ftv not fta)

I still want my existing SD Sky subscription, but also want to enjoy the Freesat HD channels. I was hoping for a PVR which would replace my Sky+ box yet still receive the Sky channels as well as the Freesat ones. A one PVR for everything type deal.

Basically you have either the choice of a free to air receiver or a freesat one. The fta ones, a few seem to be able to get a form of an EPG to set recordings but not all, are limited to now and next for programmes per channel, -plus may not have a way to record in the box. Freesat can do this but you are limited, at the moment, to Humax Foxsat HD-R.

There are only 2 semi channels for HD on freesat BBC HD and the interactive ITV HD via the red button.

There may be more but when is your guess.

So it's your choice ............

I believe that you can use either the Diablo or dragon/ TREX cams in the Humax Hdr plus FTA boxes but these do not pass the keep alive signal to the card. I say this only because no-one has had enough time to find out about what you can do with the Humax

If you intend keeping your full Sky subscription, the Freesat add-on will give you about one extra programme a week, two or three if you're really lucky. That's all ITV HD is doing at present. BBC HD you can get on Sky.

The OP says they have an SD sky subscription - not HD. So, to be able to get Sky HD would need to pay for the box and an HD sub for the next 12 months.

Freesat would add BBC HD and ITV HD to the mix. It is still a pretty limited amount of HD but is up to the OP as to whether it is worth it.

However, the only off the shelf PVR for freesat is the Humax HDR and that does not have the ability to take a sky card in order to show sky subscription channels.

The only way to get full sky functionality is with a sky box (as far as I'm aware). So to get HD freesat channels would require an additional box.

True but if the op got a diablo cam they can stick in a sky card like i have myself even with my hd sub.But with limited functionality.
