female dog humping!?
my jack russell terrier is 6 years old, and unspayed. Ever since she was a puppy when we are playing with her, and she gets over exited/we bend down to pick something up/she humps our arms/legs. She also does it to the cat! is it hormonal/sexual or something to do with dominance!? it used to be funny but she is getting older and she has a powerful grip! is it unusual for females to do this??

My dog is 4 years old, has been spayed and still humps every so often. Not all the time, I can only think of about 3 occasions when she's done it.

I think with females it tends to be dominance I would personally discourage it quickly if it happens again.

could be a displacement behaviour
i know someone who's bitch drags her bed into the room and has a right good romp whenever she has company round stress vs excitement so she does something else to clear her head but as mentioned, it could be a dominance issue |

My neuter girl humps my entire boy. I like to think it is getting her own back from when he's tried to hump her!!
But its probably because we laugh It is funny as he's about 2 inches taller than her (she's only 10 inches) so he just stands full hight and she falls off LOL.

It's usually over excitement rather than dominance, especially when it's done during play.
You can try to prevent games getting out of hand by stopping regularly and asking for simple control behaviours (sit/down) and if she starts, just end the game abruptly, stand up and walk away. |

My dog is going o be 4 in a few months, she's been spayed and yet she still likes to hump the stuffy dog. Also she tries to hump JackBoe and Honey. When she was younger, she liked to hump this loin teddy she had. She got out of it when we binned the lion teddy as it was falling apart. Now she is back doing it again.

My nine year old dane cross does it to my kids (who think it is hilarious) She was spayed before she was one. I stop it straight away. She does it when she is playing.
