as the subject really. Presumably on the iPhone too

Go to Settings, select Mail... and Add Account, then other, then enter your Hotmail account details. It then comes up with a screen saying you need a premium account with live.com, just ignore that and click 'next' and it's all set up.

cool

I get "Try to connect without SSL?"

When I hit yes it says Verification of POP3 failed.

Could the failures have anything to do with account types?

I know my account is an old .com account I've since at lest 2002. Are the accounts where people are getting nowhere newer than that or .co.uk accounts?

I have a @live.co.uk account and use the new Windows Live.

Maybe that has sumit to do with it.

Looks like it might be that then.

A hotmail.com address works for sure, at least myself and another 3 hotmail.com address holders have had it work. One of those people tried it on his Mac mail client and the pop3 worked on that too so it's not device specific.

tIt must be some older hotmail.com accounts being able to use hotmail plus features.

I have a 7 year old hotmail.com account and I just set it up fine, it's working perfectly.

I've only had my touch for a few days, already the best post-christmas present I've ever bought myself.

My @hotmail.com works but my wifes @hotmail.co.uk just gave me the mail server settings screen as other posters are getting. So I just copied the mail server settings from my @hotmail.com to my wifes @hotmail.co.uk and it now works.

I would post the server details but I'm at work now and its my wifes phone.

Glad it's working for most of you. This might help for the rest:

Incoming Host Name: pop3.live.com

Outgoing SMTP: smtp.live.com

Server port (not sure if you need this): 995

Yes there the settings I used to get my wifes @hotmail.co.uk account to work on an Iphone

Should there be a tick in the box regarding leaving messages on the server? She wants to have both the iphone and hotmail through a browser synced the same.

I haven't found a way of adding folders to the hotmail account on my iPod Touch - so if you choose to delete them from the server you have to manage all you emails within one folder on the iPod.

Depends what works best for you, I guess

Excellent, thanks for that pjg got it all set up now. By the way in case no one knew when doing the above you have to select POP at the top of the screen rather than IMAP.

Hotmail used to allow pop3 access (maybe imap too, not sure though), but then changed it to a paid-for feature. Maybe its working for people who had a hotmail account before the change?
