I fancy making scotch eggs , cheesey chips n beans for tea, seen loadsa recipes for the scotch eggs, but all say they need to be deep fat fried ? i'd prefer to bake them if poss, but is there a reason why they all say fry rather than bake? anyone know by chance?

I must admit I deep fried them last time I did Scotch eggs, but thinking about it I see no reason why they can't be baked. We bake breadcrumbed fish so I can't see why this should be any different. As long as the sausagemeat is cooked you will be fine!

Not pointless if you think about it. With the chips being fried and the cheese high fat, if you added a deep fried item to the plate the whole thing might taste a bit greasy.

the best scotch egg I've ever had was at the Tate restaurant. The yolk was still liquid inside and the white cooked through, and I haven't a clue how they did it, even taking the shell off a semi liquid egg seems to be a nightmare

You might receive a whole lot of abuse from people for using the word 'Scotch'. Apparently it can be considered to be very offensive. Shame about the eggs, the tape, the whisky, etc.

Some people are so determined to be offended

Should be called 'English Eggs' as Fortnum's invented them
