Foxsat-HDR: Folders (series link) get rid of
Hi,
With series link, content is now stored in folders, which I would like to avoid. Is there a way to avoid those folders? I can understand the use for it with multiple episodes, but with just one recording, the folders are pretty useless for me, and make it harder to see what I have on my PVR in the media library especially when sorting alphabetically or by date. Wouter. |

No i don't think you can avoid them i am afraid.
I would like to have an option so that you can stop series link recordings automatically creating a folder. For me the auto creation of series link folders is one of the most annoying features. Hopefully it may be addressed in an update. |

I on the other hand think this is a great feature which allows me to find individual recordings without having to scroll through loads of episodes of soaps that 'er-in-doors has recorded via series link so as not to miss a 'vital' episode.
So yes, I guess the best solution would be to make it optional. All down to personal preference i suppose so lets hope for an optional setting that lets you turn off series folders if you want to. |

I don't mind the series folders too much, but managing them is a bit of a pain and they can build so that you have to page down the media list to see new recordings.
Two simple changes would help:

Have the series folders listed by date amongst single programmes. I see no good reason for having them all at the top.
Having a way to delete a series folder without going into the File Manager. IMHO it should never be necessary to go into the File Manager for most casual users.
Both of those and the implementation would be perfect as far as I'm concerned. |

I hate the folders too, it just makes it longer to delete stuff. As posted above, automatically deleting empty folders would help a bit.

Trouble is if you move the folders before a series has finished it stops the recording so you have to be careful about moving / deleting these folders.
Moving folders and giving you a choice of destination for recordings was one of the things I put in my feature requests for this very reason and the fact that if you do organise recordings into the type of folders you want to have, the files just go into the general folder / series folder not the sub folders you want them to. |

The folder naming convention is poor in the extreme with them taking their name from the name of the first programme in the series.
I have one folder called 'Living without money_Tonight' which currently holds a programme called 'Deals on wheels _Tonight' from ITV's Tonight series and another called 'Horizon_do you know what time_' which currently holds 'Horizon: Where's my robot?' from BBC's Horizon series. I would much prefer no folders and just the ability to sort by date, name and the keyword(s) from which the series recording was generated. |

One easy and effective solution would be the system that the Toppy has adopted namely if a Folder is empty it hides itself until a new program is recorded and automatically placed in it.

My wife has avoided doing series recordings because of this problem , but because of a hospital stay she has just had to do a series for some of her soaps.
Can you confirm that after viewing the recordings it is possible to delete the recordings from the folder to end up with am empty folder and then delete the empty folder ? or are there some special hoops you have to jump through to achieve this ??? |

Thats exactly how it works or you can just delete the folder and recordings in one go.

I think the Sky+ HD new EPG that they have been trying to get to work for the last year or so also creates subfolders automatically to ease navigation.
With machines with larger hard drives I think some kind of file management using folders is a must. I think it would have been nice if it also put all movies recorded in a folder with perhaps an option for auto sub sorting into more folders by movie genre. Automan. |

What's really needed is some form of destination control so you can choose where the recording is going to. This would enable you to use your own categorised folders and would stop an explosion of Humax created unwanted folders in places you don't want them. |

Folders are great if they're the right folders in the right place.

They work fine for me the way they are to be honest.
Maybe not create folders until theres more than 1 recording of that program? |

I have so many recordings I have mine in subcategorised folders:
Animations Films Programmes Trouble is all new recordings just go into the general container meaning you end up with about 7 or 8 folders (series recording folders added) then loose files that are single recordings. Be far better if you could control the recoding so they went where you want them to. |
