Earphone adapter for Orange New York
Klauttu
15-01-2009
All the standard earphone adapters I see on Ebay seem to be designated 3.5mm. My male connector, on the supplied earphones appear to look the same, but it measures more than 3,5mm. In fact it is the same as my Olympus camera, around 7mm tapering to 6mm, with a 5mm wide inner 'hole'.

Am I correct in assuming that this size, is referred to as a 3.5mm connector??

I have tried to find an adapter in the retail shops to test it, but no can find.

Help please?

Its impossible to say from that description as you don't say to what those dimensions refer. It might be me but I also can't see what "inner hole" would mean in relation to a 3.5mm male connector.

Yes, my posting was inaccurate. I was describing the male connector into the mobile phone. This is a 'hollow rectangular pin which connects a single rectangular pin within the aperture on the side of the phone. I cannot see anything like this on Ebay, Amazon etc. All the connectors shown seem to have small pins within the rectangular connector, or plug, which goes into the phone. (Look at a HTC connection pins. Mine is exactly like these without the pins.

As I said my phone connector is exactly the same as the connector that I use to plug into my Olypmpus, and Kodak cameras for picture transfer.

One would expect my Orange shop to be a source of assistance and helpful guidance. Forget it!!!

Here is a link to what I am looking for, but instead of the pins, which are just visible, there is just a single rectangular pin/boss within, which the cable connection fits over. Both of the short ends slope inwards. Even a name for this sort of pin would be helpful in my search.

I'm still not entirely sure from your description, however I believe this to be a "mini USB" connection. It would be the same connection that you use to connect the phone to your computer.

HTC use an extended version of this connector to provide audio out.

Careful as there's Mini USB & Micro USB.

What do the staff in the Orange Shop say?

(although, if it's the same as a Digital Camera - it sounds like it IS Mini USB)

Thanks Cable and Prking.

I am sorry, but have run out of how to describe it. It certainly is like the design principle of the USM, but smaller 'hole'.

The Orange Shop. Absolutely useless...as usual.

Cheers to you all.

OP here

Have managed to find the right adpter, but the phone will not accept it for the radio when I use another set of earphones with a jack plug.

Is this because the original earphones have a built in aerial. (They must have, as the radio will not work without the original earpphones plugged in either)
