Freezing food
In these times of frugality I'm going to start freezing batches of food and leftovers, but am having trouble finding out definitively how long I can keep stuff in the freezer (bolognese sauce for e.g.). Also, it is best to defrost them (foil trays) in the fridge overnight and just re-heat in a pan on day of eating?)
Thanks! |

I keep them frozen until they are eaten which could be 6 months to a year and it has never done me any harm.
I freeze things like bolognese sauce in freezer bags, then I either leave it to defrost at room temperature or in the fridge (if I have thought to get it out in enough time) or defrost it in the microwave. |

i make big batches of things like chilli and bologniaise sauce and freeze it in individual portions and i find this works really well for me. I usually keep it a few months.

Thanks peeps! I bought some foil trays from EBay, do I just pop the cardborad lid on once the foods cooled, or do I need to cover in clingflim to avoid freezer bur/properly seal it???

Go to Poundland where they have loads in terms of freezer packaging. They have packs of ten boxes for the £1 of the type you get when you do a take out order. You can make up individual meals to be defrosted and microwaved for a hot work lunch. Then they have proper Tupperware type stuff for freezing larger amount when needed.
Big Poundland fan here singing their worth. I can make up meals from left overs put together from what does't get eaten from takeaways, but I am so so used to cooking ahead for my freezer. Saturday cooking ahead. Give it a go. |
