Copying IPod to Computer/new Ipod
Hi I got a new Ipod nano for christmas but my computer crashed and now i can't access all my old music - the only place I have all my music is on my other Ipod...
Is there anyway of copying my old ipod to itunes (I know it can't be done officially)? I've found sites like http://www.ipod-computer.com/ but i'm not too sure... any advice welcome! |

I did this the other day on my new laptop. Install WinAmp, it should automatically detect your iPod when you plug it in. Then all your songs will come up in the player and you can copy them onto your computer's hard-disk. At this point I installed iTunes and it gave me an option to import all my MP3s into the iTunes library automatically. That's it, you're more or less done, though you'll need to go to file and then 'authorise this computer' or something like that so that any purchased songs from iTunes can actually be played on your computer.
If you do already have iTunes installed, I'd advise you to uninstall it before doing all this as it can slow the process down when you plug in your iPod as it gives you all these messages and if you click on the wrong buttons you might accidently delete everything on your iPod! Hope this helped! EDIT: Here's WinAmp's site: http://www.winamp.com/ |

Try these guys.
http://www.bootstrapdevelopment.com/...oduct.aspx?t=b Media Widget. It isn't free but great value and excellent support, you can use it on 3 pc's and it supports Vista. Works really way, in a similar format to itunes, I can really recommend it. Works with ipod Touch too |

you don't need software to do it you can use the following it's a straightforward way for Windows users to transfer music from an iPod to your hard drive, without extra software:
Connect your iPod — Warning! if iTunes loads when you plug in your iPod, and is set to automatically sync your entire library (erasing your iPod), you MUST stop it — hit the little “X” in the upper right hand corner of the window. Open your iPod — It should show up on “My Computer” as a “Mobile Device”; right click and choose “Explore”. Alternatively, go to the Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, and double-click your iPod. Unhide the files — By default, Windows hides hidden files and folders (thus the name). Go to Options (in the Tools menu), and on the View tab, check “Show Hidden Files and Folders”. Find the Music — The music is stored (in current iPods) in the directory “\iPod_Control\Music”. This may have a lot of odd looking stuff in it — it doesn’t matter; select everything and drag and drop them to a folder on your hard drive. Configure iTunes — Go into iTunes Preferences, and under the Advanced tab, check “Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized” and “Copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to the library” (settings move around a bit between versions of iTunes, but these settings will be there somewhere). Add Your Files — In iTunes, select File, Add Folder to Library, and select the folder where you copied the files from your iPod. Alternatively, just drag and drop this folder onto iTunes |
