if your line rental is with bt and you dial 1571 and the service isnt set up you should get voice prompts
'if you want call minder dial 3' that sort of thing but to get caller minder for free if sky are your call
provider you have to make 2 chargeable calls per month ( 6 per quarter) over bts network
you would do this by dialing 1280 in front of the number
i think sky have stopped their customer being able to do this so you may find call minder isnt free..
the basic call minder service doesnt charge to pick up your messages

Dialling 1280 for Sky talk customers is no longer an option sadly

I am with BT and have skytalk. Is there a replacement for 1280?

No.

However, some have circumvented the restriction by using a BT Chargecard to make enough 'qualifying calls' via BT so as to get Caller Display and basic 1571 at no cost.

I wonder would dialing 1471 & 3 or 1571 & 0 allow your call to be routed through BT rather than overider?

or move the line rental over to Sky and save a couple of quid as well

If you move your line rental to Sky & then at a later date need BT line rental due to a better deal etc, will this incur £125 reconnection? Something to consider before doing so.

I doubt that very much. I cant see BT charging £125 to switch to them. I believe the charge is only for people that do not have a line from the street to the house. If you have, then the switch to BT is free.

This is my understanding of the charge.

I would have assumed that too, but its not so. If your line is dis-connected by BT & reconnected by another operator, rather than rented from BT, then you will be liable if you need to change back.

Their is alot written about it on the MSE forums.

So from what your saying moving from BT to SKY, and then moving back to BT, will incur a fee. I think if that is the case BT are being silly...losing potential customers.

I would'nt like to say this is what will happen with Sky, as I'm a little confused as of when it's a complete disconnection of BT line & when it's not. But from what I've read on the MSE forum, it's best to at least check this out before moving your line rental if you might want to come back to BT at a later date.
