I'm on Vodafone Pay as you go but would like to go over Asda mobile as i'm getting hammered in call charges. My question is if i were to get my number ported how long would it take? Would i be able to use the Voda Sim in the meantime as if will take awhile for the porting to go through. Last but not least when the porting is successful will my Voda sim just pack up or what? Pardon my ignorance but it's a question I wondered about

It takes about 48 hours between those two - you'll get intermittant service from both on the day until the port is complete. The Voda sim will keep working until that happens. When it does it will be useless and you'll lose any credit you had on it.

I think it took this amount of time years ago. Read this - interesting article.

The thing that sticks out is Australia's 3 minute time scale!!!!

I think that they have a cheque clearing system that takes hours too. Makes you wonder why it takes so long in this country.

Regardless of what you've read or been told, it takes 48 hours between Voda and Asda. And they will not charge you for the PAC.

If you are getting hammered in charges, have you considered a sim only 30 days rolling contract?

I moved my number from Vodafone to Virgin last year and it was fairly quick:
I think they said it could take 5-7 days but it only took three - in fact I was trying to use up my remaining vodafone credit and number went over to virgin while i still had quite a bit left.

There's a step by step guide fixed to top of this section of forum which I found really useful.
Vodafone were v helpful even tho i was leaving them.
My OH was going to move his phone from 02 to virgin, but when he rang to discuss this and get PAC number, they offered him an improved packge so he stayed.

Vodofone coulnd't match Virgin for me, so i left
