I have a few:

Hounds of Love - I love the original by Kate Bush but also adore the Futureheads version

Because by the Beatles i love, but Elliot Smiths version is as gorgeous: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvSdFr3niQM

And one more i thought of! Ryan Adams Wonderwall....better then Oasis imo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gVxRvNfFLg

I probably agree with you on the first two but definitely dont on the last one. Oasis wonderwall is one of the best songs ever.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah better than Leonard Cohens

Most of the Bob Dylan songs covered in the 60s were better than his versions because he can't sing, same with Daniel Johnston covers and with Joe Cocker's version of With a Little Help from My Friends (Ringo sang original).

I used seek out all sorts of weird and wonderful covers. Here's a few:

Lacuna Coil - Enjoy the Silence - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DiFUXBatLLk
Disturbed - Land of Confusion - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dKFIedvbAik
Goldfinger - 99 Red Balloons - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2D-OqZxdZiU

Lots more like Shatner's version of Common People (perhaps not better, but wacky), Pain's version of Eleanor Rigby, Johnny Cash's Hurt, could go on...

Peter Sellers' version of Hard Day's Night! In the persona of Richard III as played by Laurence Olivier!

Jimi Hendrix's version of 'All Along The Watchtower' usually comes out tops when this is asked [rumour has it that Dylan liked it enough to change his own arrangement to sing it like Hendrix] So I'm voting for something else this time [no , not this - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=O8qTyxmIvYU] Led Zeppelin - Travelling Riverside Blues - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ctnMjmHdUA8.

The Pet Shop Boys and You Were Always On My Mind. I wouldn't really say its better than the original probably equally as good and injects a different approach and style to it.

Recent covers I've never been that keen on.

Guns N Roses - Live and Let Die

Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World

Johnny Cash - Hurt

I got worn out in the Hallelujah debates of a month or so ago, so all I'll say regarding Jeff Buckley's version is an emphatic 'No it isn't'

The only one I can think of now is The Beatles' version of Mr Postman - I like it better than the original. There are loads others but I can't think of them

Dylan has been doing the Hendrix version for a long time in concert. Dylans version is actually a acoustic song. As a Dylan fan i would love him to do his version.

Seconded - Even as a huge Snow Patrol fan I can recognise a good cover and that is a bloody good cover

I've listened to loads of Radio 1 covers and theres been a fair few interesting interpretations.

I loved The Script's take on 'Lose Yourself' this year
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8dAiCtnX1mw

and adored this

30 Seconds To Mars cover Kanye West's 'Stronger'
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0XC_Rj51DLI

I also like these two covers that are nothing like the original but offer a different take on the song

Jamelia covers Linkin Parks 'Numb'
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aLkzhQlz9GU

Will Young's interpretation of 'Hey Ya'
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sl5pnBDRPQ

Manic Street Preachers - Umbrella.

I hated the original version, it just seemed like yet another pop tracked aimed at the charts. The MSP version is actually one of the most played tracks on my MP3 player.

Agree with that one too, Bryan's vocal is just gorgeous on it.

Another one I fogot was Johnny Cash's Bridge Over Troubled Water, the version is so full of emotion, really fab, and also Johnny Cash and June Carter singing Bob Dylans - It Ain't me babe classic!

A few favourites of mine:

Tricky - Black Steel (Public Enemy cover)
Lemonheads - Luka (Suzanne Vega cover)

And would agree that the Futureheads version of Hounds of Love is great.
