It's a lot harder to learn to skate the older you get. Karen and Jayne can still do it as they've been doing since they were young and continued. Very different to learning it fresh at that age.
In general the younger you are when you start skating the easier it is to learn. Far less bad muscle memory to overcome and usually much less of a fear factor too.
I hadn't expected to like Melinda much but was very impressed with her (and she's same age as I was when I learnt to skate!). She kept smiling and didn't let the wobbles put her off and just picked it right back up.
Jessica was good as expected and Zoe was the surprise as she had some complicated footwork and a difficult routine which she performed well.
Wasn't impressed with Roxanne at all - I think maybe Dan is inclined to do too much lifiting and carrying as I'd have expected her (being a youngster) to have thrown herself more into the actual skating but she didn't move for ages and then got lifted a lot.
Gemma came over badly on the VT (I dont' watch the soaps so didnt' know her) and then didnt' live up to her own hype. The back drag and spirals were good and I was initially surprised at the low score but looking at it again the overall impression wasn't very good.
Colleen probably got through on her popularity but she did make a good effort and actually managed to look more comfortable on the ice than Gemma.
Happy with the result though! So glad Melinda and the lovely Fred stayed.
