last year there was loads of posts on youtube and the girls aloud forum gloating at the fact sugababes had flopped

yet girls aloud who are supposed to be at their peak have only just scapped into the top 10 at 10 today with kanye only 250 behind!!!!!!!!!

has the novelty worn off girls aloud?

Number 10 isn't that bad for a single that has had no promotion. They performed it once in December on their tv show and that's it. It was a very silly decision by the record company to push ahead with the release while the group have gone on holiday.

Well it's still their 20th Top 10 hit in a row.

Can't be bad, even if it is their lowest charting single

Their album has sold a lot so it's not surprising. Sugababes only reached #23 with their recent single despite their album selling only a small fraction of Girls Aloud's. #10 is quite decent really.

Hardly the GA album has sold over 700k, why would anyone but hardcore fans purchase this single now?, its slightly different to the Sugababes "flop" as their album has sold les sthen 100k and No Can Do didnt make the top 20

It didn't deserve to chart any higher because it's not that great a song and they didn't put any effort in to promoting it. Plus the remix was barely noticeable and well over 600,000 people already own it.

It may be their lowest charting song yet but it isn't their worst selling, and sales are what matter to the record company.

Why are you flogging this crap on another forum?

As this is the second thread you've started on this single flopping in the space of a few minutes, I think it's fair to say we have a rather dumb troll on our hands.

They have promoted it on shows like GMTV and Paul O'Grady. Plus like you said, their own TV show which got high ratings. That's not "no promotion".

er nope not really, take a look at the ALBUM sales last year, the Out of Control album sold amazingly well and the Greatest Hits continues to sell.

Even though a lot of people have the song on the album it has still managed to make the top 10 (although the charts have not officially been released yet so nothing is set in stone) besides all the promotion for the single was done before Christmas so in fact I think they will do very well to reach the Top 10.

Generally speaking second singles from big selling albums don't tend to do as well as there is no incentive for fans who already own the song on the album to buy the single apart from if they wish to get it a good chart position. There ARE notable exceptions such as Kings of Leon - Use Somebody and Duffy's Warwick Avenue but these are rare.

Singles now act as nothing more than ambassadors for albums, its album sales where the money is made and people obsessed with the singles chart need to understand this. To say Girls Alouds have flopped is veeeeery dangerous if you want to compare to Sugababes whose ALBUM well and truly HAS.

Exactly. Record labels , especially for mainstream pop acts prefer sales over chart positions. They would obviously prefer to have their artist sell a single that reached about #6 and sold about 40k than one that reached #1 and sold about 25k. People

but i guess on the week it mattered most (i.e this week) they did not promote it....

anyway i would not call TLK a flop, in fact i think it sold more than some of their other singles like Cant Speak French

I didn't know that the only one I saw them on was their ITV show. Compared to other singles then they have done hardly no promo for it. Normally they are like a bad smell the week before a single release this time they haven't bothered and are on holiday instead.

I think it is their 2nd single to chart at #10 the other being See The Day.

EDIT - I stand corrected STD was #9.

It's not a very good song. I don't know how it got onto the album, never mind be released as a single.

It's hardly flopped. And the "novelty" as you so nicely put it hasn't worn off. The girls have been taking a holiday and therefore haven't promoted this single as much as they should.
The main reason it's got a relatively low chart position compared to their other singles is the fact that not many people knew when it was released.

#10 is a total flop!!

What a load of rubbish. It's had 0 promotion and i only saw the video for the first time yesterday. Plus 'Out Of Control' has sold hundreds of thousands of copies so many people already own the song. Quite how anybody can call it a flop is beyond me.

On a sidenote the megamix on the single is brilliant

I think the OP is a fan because the chart isn't even out yet and she has been following their chart position for the new single

This thread is proof that the only reason the Top-10 are the Top-10 is because of promotion. If Girls Aloud had an ounce of talent between them then the single wouldn't have 'flopped', because it being a good song would have sold it.

Same goes for Sugababes and all those manufactured acts.

not really cause i don't think that 10 is a flop

Errr. GA have sold sold millions of records, so by your logic they are actually talented.

Anyway, top ten isn't a flop. The OP seems to be posting this thread everywhere.
