I really liked her :\ I thought she was so determined, and it came across the wrong way.
Btw I dont get the comments on Roxannes likeability either, I think shes came across really well?

Ben Kingsley was in a soap.

Yep - can't see Her Maj saying 'Arise Sir Todd,' or proclaiming Roxanne and Gemma a Dame though.

Can you?

I was almost as shocked as her at the scores. Very unremarkable skating - sure, but she was a point down across the panel on others of equal ability.

It brings the viewership into sharp focus, I think. Women just didn't like her. My opinion, as a male, was that her VT was refreshingly honest; I warmed to her because of it. None of the little girl lost I've come to expect from female entrants.

She was confident of improving and getting pretty good. Most of the others think exactly the same of themselves, but don't let on because they want to bring careers back to life.

I found her to be one of the few who *wasn't* fake. I really thought a lot of females would consider her 'feisty', as I did. I'm not a regular viewer, though, so that shows what I know.

I was very surprised at her low score, and she certainly didn't deserve to go. I think she came over as a bit pushy, shame.

Well its quite clear that Roxanne won the battle of the soap b*tches last night.

I didn't like the way they chose to portray Gemma in her VT as being super competitive - but she was the Lisa Snowdon of DOI - a superfan of the programme who was so delighted to be on it that she didn't think too hard about what she was saying when the camera was present (you'd think she might have learned that from watching previous series of DOI and SCD - the public don't like competitive females). I don't think her b*tchy character in Eastenders has done her any favours either.....

I agree she was undermarked - but TBH I don't think a hihgher mark would have saved her as she clearly didn't get the votes that Roxy and Coleen clearly did to stay out of the skate off.

I'm a girl and I like her, I agree with some other post that she was probably a bit over-excited!

I also preferred her routine to Roxanne's - I thought the dancing at the beginning of her routine was awful!

Im delighted she went.
An ego the size of China with little ability to back it up.
great to see lovely Melinda and the even lovelier Fred get a clean sweep in the skate off.
Great to see the judges saw through the arrogant bint too.

I thought Gemma was a bit cold at first, but once I could see how much she loved the show and wanted to be in it, I did feel rather sorry for her. I don't think she was arrogant or pushy.

I don't think you can infer much as to what the audience thought of her, as she was in the bottom two anyway, and it was always obvious that Coleen, who was at the bottom was going to get a good audience vote. Obviously the audience weren't keen enough on Gemma to lift her out of the botton two.

(Melinda on the other hand was quite well placed on the scoreboard and so must have done particularly badly on the audience vote. )

I don't really see the relevance in comparing Gemma to Oscar winning actresses.

Just trying not to be a telly snob.

Other soap actors:-

Guy Pearce, Russell Crowe.

Did you ever see an awful show called Roar with a young Heath Ledger.

They all have to start somewhere and who knows where they may end up.

i don't think she came across as cold.
i thought she seemed really competitive and quite mouthy but not cold.

I felt really, really sorry for her - she looked utterly gutted (and I didn't think for one moment that she was 'fake' - an accusation that gets thrown around a lot by folks on DS; am completely bewildered as to how one could possibly know this unless one was actually living in her head or was a psychic. But we so love to judge people we don't know and are never going to meet on 5-minute appearances on TV. The psychology of this absolutely fascinates me. Do we do this because of some need to validate ourselves or is it simply that we have never progressed from the childish taunts of our playground years? One could concoct a whole thesis just by reading DS alone! )

I think it's a shame Jemma has gone. The younger ones are far more daring and more exciting to watch.

Trouble is she has a big gob and was more or less giving herself the trophy before she'd been on her first performance. I know she was just excited but I think she may have annoyed the viewer. Came across as a bit cocky - also saying the girl from Emmerdale was her only competition was a bit previous as well. Clearly Jessica and Zoe are very much competition.

I think if she'd reined her enthusiasm in a bit and given us a chance to watch her improve I think she'd have been good to watch.

Coleen should have gone if it was on ability and she clearly hates the whole thing. But she'll have plenty of fans who will vote regardless.

As usual it's about popularity not skill or entertainment.

She couldn't have been any plainer regarding why she saw Roxanne as a competiter (and it was all in jest - my some people have lost their funny bones) - North v South soaps.

Nothing to do with her looks.

She is actually incredibly down to earth and is the antithesis of a luvvie - unfortunately her manner made people think she was being serious when she was actually sending herself up and having some fun.

I can't see how she was any worse than Melinda who left me utterly cold.

'Act like an excited 10-year-old' is the proven way to advance. I *hate* the false humility on these programmes, which is why I tend to avoid them.

Competitive entrants should be the backbone of the concept, not excluded from it. Sod 'the journey' - I want to be entertained and impressed!

Annoyingly, there are a few would-be talented skaters around, but their faces don't fit.

I think Gemma just came across to arrogant, which turned out to be her down fall. I saw her interviews on GMTV and This Morning and she just didn't seem overly bothered in the GMTV interview she was slouched down on the sofa with her leg lounging on the other(horizontally!? i don't know how else to explain it lol) and her top was rolling up. The This Morning interview was slightly better but she still came across if she should of been top with the judges yesterday and didn't deserve to leave.

I'd call that a sign of intelligence! John Cleese is about the only one who can give a decent interview to that bunch. (Or Stephen Fry, I guess.)

I just watched the results show and I wasn't impressed by Gemma's comments when she was voted off. I felt sorry for her partner and I thought the comments from T&D about less talk and more action spoke volumes. She didn't do herself any favours on DOI imho.

Jason was totally out of order with his 'cardboard cut out' comment.

I didnt think Gemma deserved to go, Melinda should have gone!! The judges always choose the same person to save as each other, why cant they just follow their own mind??

I'm sure it wasn't intentional on Gemma's part but she did come across as quite abrasive and I think the viewing public just didn't warm to her. I agree she wasn't the worst skater but it's an entertainment-cum-skating show and personality plays as big a part as ability or potential ability. That's the case in all these types of shows, which have public voting - no one wants to spend their money voting for someone they don't enjoy watching: that's life. *shrugs*

Well how many have you won? I'd be pretty happy if I won any kind of award like that. What have you won that gives you the right to belittle someone else's achievements? I didn't like Gemma but I've found a lot of the comments about her unnecessary and down right rude.

This is so true. If you are going to talk the way she talked at least have some talent.

Melinda shouldn't have been in the bottom 2, she skated better than Gemma first time and outskated her in the skate off as well.

From me who loves Andrei and is gutted he got her as a partner and we don't get to see him much anymore this series (AGAIN)
