Help!! I can't get any GPRS applications to work on my Nokia 3650

I am having a big problem, GPRS and net access works fine with Services within Nokia 3650 but any 3rd Party software I have installed in it, like IM+ and Netfront, just won't download any data, even wap pages, , even though it connects to GPRS connection like Services, the exception to this is when I use it through bluetooth, which isn't ideal in the real world!

is there some kind of block in my phone, that stops 3rd party software from accessing online services?

are you on orange ?

I've never managed to get gprs working on mine either, I put it down to orange not supporting the phone.

No on 02, GPRS works fine within the Nokia application of Services, with O2 Active etc, but any 3rd party applications that offer proper webpages and messenger, just don't download any data and timeout, even though, the GPRS connection is fine, is there something within the phone stopping 3rd party programs using the GPRS even though it allows it to connect, this is not just one program but all but Nokia services, so I'm sure its not a problem with an individual program, the problem is I have now spent money on a piece of software! somewhat stupidly!

I heard that operators don't charge you for GPRS but only what you download. Does that mean I pay a small amount to load up a page and then I can spend hours or whatever viewing the page without paying anything further? I would love to use a bit of the GPRS when I get my Motorola V500 but probably just for downloading games or wallpaper but if it's too expensive, then I'll just stick to my broadband at home

I'm not paying anything at all for GPRS just asked them to activate it, and its totally free! I'm on 02 Pay and go.

Incidently could this be the reason the programs don't work? is it on some sort of limited access?

I have exactly the same problem. The inbuilt browser's OK, but anything else like Doris, Opera, AgileMessenger etc. won't work.

Haven't found a solution for it yet

I use O2 contract and have found no problems with GPRS yet.

You might have to set the default access point to something else then.

I've tried it on an o2 online pay and go sim, and on my contract (o2 online again) sim, and neither work with 3rd party apps.

just phoned 02, basicly its because I'm on Pay and Go, and the 3rd pary applications are designed for contract phones, down to the usage.

they said though if I phoned the manufactuer of the application, they might find a way round.

Well guys I'm on an O2 contract, not P & G and I get the same problem, not sure who O2 are trying to kid here, if GPRS access is enabled, the app should not really make a difference, unless there is something in addition that needs activating or configuring.

OK.... Just got of the phone to O2 who were not at all helpfull. It is nothing to do with them, and nothing to do with the type of account contract/P&G. Told me I needed to speak to Nokia. Usual stuff?????

However I did get some info from them after insisting they gave it to me, and despite them arguing that it would do me no good.

O2's proxy server runs on IP 193.113.200.195 on port 8080 enabling proxy and adding these values in to Netfront got it working.

So, I can now browse the web on my 6600 fine..

Hope this helps.

I use that address on my PDA to get free internet whilst o2's GPRS is free!
But..The port no. I use is 80. Does the 8080 one support HTTPS or is it a HTTP only one like port 80?

HTTP only I believe.

If you are using Orange there are two different types of GPRS available. One is only WAP and the other is with full WWW connections. Probably the applications you use require WWW capabilities.
