Hi all

My beloved border collie (12 and a half years old) has just been diagnosed with inoperable stomach cancer which has also possibly spread to his liver.

He needs easily digestible foods - so far he has managed well on chicken and rice and it has also been suggested that white fish and scrambled eggs would be ok for him. Has anyone got any other ideas please? We have been advised that we will only have him for another two months at best...we are devastated but want to make things as easy for him as possible during this time.

All suggestions gratefully received, thanks in advance.

Can't think of anything that hasn't already been recommended except to perhaps supliment with something like 'nurishum'.

My heart goes out to you, how bloody awful, I'm so sorry. Hopefully you can make your poor dog's last days as happy and comfortable as possible.

I haven't posted about my dog's health problems on here yet, it's so long and involved, but it's looking like she has kidney failure, and we don't know why yet, too many other things to sort out before she can be x-rayed etc. I've been back and forth to the vets this last month more times than I can remember now, including 10pm on Christmas Eve when we thought she was about to die, and again on Christmas Day. Vet advised me to put her on chicken and rice diet (home made, boiled up fresh, not tinned dog food) but this upset her too, and wasn't digested at all. She's now been on Hill's Science Plan Kd tinned food for dogs with permanent or temporary kidney/renal failure for a week, and fingers crossed it's working. She loves it, but I have to be so strict and makes sure she doesn't scavenge anything else at all, but it's stopped all her diarrhea, throwing up and fitting.

Previous to her being diagnosed with that, we thought she had liver failure and was on Royal Canin Hepatic Diet, which is also easily digested, and she also liked that. Maybe worth a try for your dog.

If it's any good to you, I have nearly a full bag of the dried biscuit one of Hepatic diet which I'd be happy to send to you for your dog, I can't give it to mine now. PM me if interested. If he's not used to dry, you can soak it in warm water or at least mix it in with his other stuff.
