Mp3 is an unrestricted format, so any mp3 from any source will work with any music player out there.
Apps wise, yes only apps from iTunes will install. In iTunes, the music and video file format is mp4/m4v/AAC etc (different names for same format). Apple say they're making all their music DRM free, but I don't know how much of their music is at the moment. If it has no DRM, then it'll say iTunes Plus by it. |

80% of their store is DRM-free at the moment. In a few months it will be 100% DRM-free. I took a look this morning and only 3 of the top 50 songs are still DRM protected. MP3, AAC, AIFF, WAV and unprotected WMAs can even be converted into MP3. You can get these files from anywhere, from CDs or through other means.

Using the internet on a touch via wifi is brilliant, the safari browser is so user friendly. As for streaming radio, you can download an app from itunes. I have WunderRadio on mine.

It's full internet, except flash. So you can't access pages made entirely from flash, although you can browse pages with bits of flash on though they won't be active. The radio is just wifi so yes it would disconnect when out of range. Quote:

Well, there is the iPhone which connects to net via phone signal...iPod touch & 2nd Gen differences = slightly different look, the 2G has speakers, external volume control, microphone input support, a 100mhz faster processor...so far this doesn't affect much as the 1st gen has the same capabilities. |
