ok then - it was absolutely spot on. i knew that, but i thought I'd soften the emphasis...

besides - i don't think saying that the odd smack or the odd belt is the exactly the same as extreme physical abuse is over analysing things anyway.

i'd say that suggesting they were was over generalising tho'.

and to slag off Cameron for appearing on CiN is just plain daft IMO - for the simple reason that, even if people may or may not benefit from such appearances, that shouldn't in itself be a reason for them not to.

So you can catergorically state that 'simply *getting the belt* never really did anyone that much harm'?

Hang on...

I'm envisioning your next reply...

something along the lines of...

...not that it doesn't do *any* harm, just not *that much* harm.

i must admit my posts were mainly in response to Alrightmate's reactionary post whereby he took the fact that Cameron had said something about *getting the belt* and twisted it into *Cameron shouldn't be on CiN because he clearly doesn't have a problem with the extreme abuse of children*.

which I thought was a pretty ambitious leap of logic.

but its probably just me - coz I luv Cam and all.

see? you're putting words in mouth that aren't there.

can I go as far as saying that the odd smack isn't in a million years comparable with serious physical abuse?

Eh? Those are your words, here.

There are differing opinions about what can and can't be deemed as abuse which have been discussed in other threads.

It was the effect I was referring to, not the cause, which is why I was surprised by your 'never really did anyone that much harm' response to Alrighmate.

Confirming your statement with 'it was absolutley spot on' made wonder how you arrived at this conclusion. I'm not putting words into your mouth, just asking you to reconfirm what you've already said.

can i stick with the *the odd smack isn't really comparable to extreme physical abuse, and its a bold leap of logic to conclude that Cameron doesn't care about children because he thinks that too*?

the *spot on* bit was simply about the fact that you guys were indeed still slagging Cameron about something.

You can, but that avoids the point I raised from your response to Alrighmate. You're referring to the cause again, my point referred to the effect and your knowledge of it.

It was? Looks like it's part of your response to my post

I was thinking of taking bets as to how many pages long this thread is going to get.
Anyone care to take a guess?

oh - no.

grim said **faints* blimey, just when everyone thought it was safe, back comes iain!*

so i said *as it had been a while, I thought i'd just pop in - wondering if you guys would still be harping on about something. good to see I wasn't disappointed...*

so the whole *spot on* thing was referring to that bit - not about any more involved debate about the ins and outs, whys and wherefors, rights and wrongs of varying degrees of corporal punishment.

(although I see now a post of yours had slipped in between those, but i was replying to grim)

is this getting unnecessarily complicated again....

Iain!!
Welcome back!
It's been really annoying having to read threads with reply after reply addressing the actual point raised!
This is much better, how I have missed digressing totally and the minutiae of tenuous and faintly related points so obscurely connected as to warrant the attentions of an electron microscope and the diligence of a semi-submerged crocodile awaiting it‘s next meal!

Apart from that, yes, of course of we are still “at” Camoron. He’s repulsive and any opportunity I for one will have a go at him because I don’t like him one bit because he tried to fool everyone, but didn’t succeed with us all. That he stooped to such a pretence to “win” and devalued the heart-felt beliefs of real religious devotees annoys those of a more honest persuasion. How low can you get? Well, the buck stops at Camoron with me. Charlatan.

Well Skazza, it’s unprepossessing to be too fulsome apropos the regard with which one might hold a fellow human, or Camoron, and I felt I should merely obliquely hint at an aspect/peccadillo/idiosyncrasy of said Orkadian that might offend one’s sensibilities.
That and he’s a complete pain the in *rse!

PS Grim's right! I want his babies!
