Using “Altair” software it is relatively easy to transfer files from a Toppy box and a PC but there are technical limitation of 5M (maybe 10M) for a “USB 2” connection. Note a friends Humax USB connections are more flaky than the Topfield box. I now connect to my Toppy with a laptop and save the files to an external USB disk drive.
Once on a PC I use “Videoredo” to edit the “rec” file produced from the Toppy box and to produce a DVD. While “Videoredo” can produce dvd’s directly I tend to save the outputs as MPEG and wait until have enough to make a full DVD, I master the DVD with Videoredo but cut it with Nero
The Videoredo software cost be $20 about 2 years ago and is probably the best value software I have ever brought. Some users have managed to produce DVD’s using free software but when I couldn’t get it to work when I tried.
