Is there a required element this week?

I remember that last series, each couple had a required element (eg, spiral, step sequence, unassisted jump) to perform every week. Has that been abandoned for this series, or did we not see it because of the male/female divide?

There isn't usually a required element during the first week. We had a double first week because of the male/female divide and this week counts as the second week, so we'll probably see the required element this week.

I would like to see a "required element" introduced along the lines of a "set dance" such as ice dancers have to do in one round of their competitions. A Latin dance, such as cha cha or jive or paso, one week, a ballroom dance - waltz, tango etc another. Jayne & Chris used to go to dance teachers to get their dances right before adapting them to the ice.

Then the show really would be DANCING on ice, instead of what it is at present - pairs skating.

I might have imagined it but was the required element for the first 2 weeks for the celeb to do some unassisted skating?

main problem is most of the pro skaters are not from an ice dance background but from pairs, solo or adadigo

One would have thought that they were used to learning routines though!

A week to learn a 90 second dance seems long enough and none of the compulsory dances have any tricks to learn - its all about the steps and pattern on the ice.

We weren't told there was a required element. There isn't usually for the first skate - because they probably think it's enough of an achievement for the celebs just to get through their first performance!

According to Jayne's weekly column in Woman's Own, this week's required element is a toe step sequence.

Roxanne Pallet was on Calendar and Daniel said it is toe steps or something like that. Thats wat he said the required element was. Roxanne was on her toe picks, the routine looked good!

Required element for Todd is to stand up on the ice and move under your own steam.

As a dancer, that is my main gripe about the show. Ice dance has its roots in ballet and ballroom dancing, so why not reflect this? Along with Jayne and Chris, have a dance instructor on hand to help demonstrate moves.
