My top five are:

1. Donnie Darko - a perfect soundtrack for a perfect movie
(INXS - Never Tear us Apart, Joy Division -Love will tear us Apart, Tears for Fears - Head over Heels, Duran Duran - Notorious)

2. Trainspotting - was 16/17 when this was released and all those songs sum up the movie and that great time starting going out, clubbing etc perfectly!
(Underworld - Born Slippy, Iggy Pop - Lust for Life, New Order - Temptation, Atomic - Sleeper, Pulp-Mile End)

3.American Beauty - again the songs capture the mood of this fantastic movie perfectly
(Elliot Smith - Because, The Seeker - The Who, Dont rain on my parade - Bobby Darin, and the beautiful title track, Any other name - Thomas Newman)

4. Summer of Sam - the best 70s rock/disco soundtrack ever!!
(Baba O Reilly - The Who, Got to give it up - Marvin Gaye, La Vie en Rose - Grace Jones, Best of My Love - The Emotions, Don't Leave Me This Way - Thelma Houston)

5. The Departed - just so raw and edgy!
(Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd, Gimme Shelter - The Stones, Shipping up to Boston - Dropkick Murphys)

Agree/Disagree? What are yours?

The long out of print soundtrack to the 70s David Essex / Ringo Starr movie ''That'll Be The Day'' with all those 50s Rock 'n' Roll songs [http://www.trademe.co.nz/Music-instr...-194993261.htm ] has for a long time been my favourite. I suppose it's to do with my first 'proper' girlfriend having it playing constantly in our 'courting' days as teenagers. The soundtrack to the early Beatles biopic ''Backbeat'' is pretty cool too , with members of Sonic Youth , Nirvana , Afghan Whigs , R.E.M. Soul Asylum , & Gumball forming a supergroup to sing the very early Beatles stuff , produced by Don Was too ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backbeat_(soundtrack)

I like Ennio Morricone's Spaghetti Western music for original scores.

'Jackie Brown' and 'American Graffiti' both have great tunes.

Juno - is one of mine...lots of quirky pop and introduced me to Kimya Dawson, which in turn led me to The Moldy Peaches. Belle and Sebastian, one of my favourite indie bands also features...plus the Velvet Underground ( I'm Sticking With You ).

Add in Mott the Hoople, the Kinks, a classic Buddy Holly and a superlative Sonic Youth cover of The Carpenters "Superstar" and you have a remarkable CD

I don't really do soundtracks, but my favourite song from a film is Kill Everything by Skin from the film L’Empire des Loups.

Funnily enough I just had plonked on my desk the soundtrack for 'What woman want'

I know it's a few years old now but each time I watch I think 'I must get the soundtrack' so when I watched it on TV a few weeks ago , I did just that.

Lots of Frank Sinatra and a few other rat packers, but the stand out track for me is The Temptations singing a beautifully slowed down and romantic version of 'Night and Day' ... very classy.

I agree. My housemate and I love this CD - we liked the mix of funny songs (I am a vampire, I have lost my fangs again) and the more serious, like Mott the Hoople and Sonic Youth.

I loved the film, so listening to the soundtrack always makes me happy.

Dazed & Confused:

Set during the final day of term, before summer break, at a Texas High school in 1976, these rock classics (and several more) help to create an authentic atmosphere - throughout what is a wonderful film.

1. Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo - Rick Derringer
2. Slow Ride - Foghat
3. School's Out - Alice Cooper
4. Jim Dandy - Black Oak Arkansas
5. Tush - ZZ Top
6. Love Hurts - Nazareth
7. Stranglehold - Ted Nugent
8. Cherry Bomb - The Runaways
9. Fox on the Run - Sweet
10. Low Rider - War
11. Tuesday's Gone - Lynyrd Skynyrd
12. Highway Star - Deep Purple
13. Rock and Roll All Nite - Kiss
14. Paranoid - Black Sabbath

Great stuff!

The Cameron Crowe movies 'Almost Famous' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almost_Famous_(soundtrack) & 'Vanilla Sky' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_from_Vanilla_Sky have excellent soundtracks , as should be expected from a writer from Rolling Stone Magazine turned director !
