Sony Ericsson C905 Broken Ear Piece Fault
The ear piece of my SE C905 stopped working at the weekend. It works whilst on speaker but not through the ear piece. So I took it back to Carphone Warehouse to be repaired, where it still is.
However, having looked on the net I see on the Vodaphone forums that I am not an isolated case and that it is a widespread issue. So how many users on here own a C905 and have you experienced this problem? Even if you are fortunate enough to have not, it may affect you soon as it is not known if it is a hardware or software fault. I wanted to bring this to as many people's attention so that if it does happen to you, you can argue with your provider that it is not isolated. |

speaking as someone who works in a repair centre, I can tell you that it IS a common fault, in that virtually every C905 that comes in to us has this fault. However that is not to say that all C905s have this fault. To make it clear though, it is not actually the earpiece itself that fails, but rather the flex leading to it.
Hope this helps. |

My C905 has broke twice.
The keypad has failed. The ear piece was replaced with a new one last time and the same fault came back. I am still without my C905 it's been in repair half the time I have owned it now. |

Got an automated phone call at 10am this morning saying the phone was ready for collection. Sunday of all days.
But it works (for now). Only pain is that it no longer had the Dusk Theme on it despite them saying the software was reflashed. Using Sony's update (which said I already had the latest software) somehow re-enabled it. I'm now happy with the C905 - excellent music player, excellent camera - dubios phone (at the moment). |

Just started getting this problem, was on the phone and it cut out a few times then the earpeice just went dead, hopefully Vodafone will repair it quickly. Was surprised to see around various forums that it's such a common problem!

As someone who works for a network provider we know its a widespread issue. I have seen lots of handsets with this problem and the phone freezing. Its a phone I wouldnt touch with a bargepole for that reason!

Its such a shame I didnt read all of these posts before I cought my phone in January (on an 18 month contract - boo hiss!).
The earpiece stopped working on my c905 so I have had to have conversations via the speakerphone all weekend, which has not been fun - especially when trying to have a conversation whilst out in a bar in town on a night out! I tried doing the hold the 'C' button trick, which worked at first but now even that has stopped working. Went to the T-mobile shop on my lunch break to drop it off for repair (its covered under warranty for 2 years so wont cost me anything to fix - fingers crossed!). Apparently it will be 7-10 working days before I get it back. They've given me a crappy temporary motorola phone to use in the meantime. |

Battery life is crap if you ask me, but that was expected.
I haven't had the earpeice fault yet and i've had it a good five months, i'm still expecting it though, I brought it sim-free so I guess I'll have to deal with SE direct if it goes. Oh my unlock button has stopped working though, i've noticed if I slide the phone about half way up the button starts working again, i'm having to do this anytime I want to use that button It's certainly the gimp of the phone world. |

I've got two C905's and they both broke (earpiece) within one week of each other. Mine are the silver one's on Orange.

It seems that all of the models made in 2008 will fail (wow, this is rather like a Thomson Sky HD box!) but I was told that newer models have fixed the problem, which is indeed down to the cable and not the earpiece itself.
My third C905 now has another problem, in that if you slightly wiggle the slider when the phone is open, it thinks it has closed and the keylock comes on. Really annoying when you're trying to dial and have to keep wiggling (or closing and opening) the slider. The problem is that I like SE phones and the C905 is the best one out there at the moment (the only model that can play high bitrate video files without stuttering, for one, as I think it has a faster processor or dedicated video processor) and it takes excellent photographs too. I'm loathe to change to any other model, except perhaps the forthcoming Idou (and that's some way off). The W995 looks good but it won't have the Xenon flash. Finally, SE has confirmed to the press that they've had problems with the C905 and you should have no problems getting it fixed by any authorised repair centre. I know people say they wouldn't touch the phone (or SE) with a barge pole again - but once fixed the C905 is an excellent phone. In fact, it's rather like the Thomson Sky HD boxes - once fixed properly, it's probably one of the best out there! Good luck! |

Found this thread whilst searching on Google, and need some advice please.
I have a C905, that has developed the dreaded faulty earpiece, however I have an added twist - - earlier in the year, I dropped my phone in a bucket of water, pretty effectively killing it. As it is insured through Mrs C's bank account, it was duly sent off, written off, and replaced - and it is the replacement phone that has developed the fault. We have contacted the insurer tonight, who state that as it has gone beyond 90 days, they would have to treat it as a new claim, and as such would have to pay another excess (£50); as you can imagine, I am quite a lot less than happy! ![]() I am working on the assumption that Orange won't want to know, as essentially the phone I have is not the phone they sold me, so the upshot is that I am well and truly stuck. I am toying with sending SE an email to see if they would take any interest, but again I am doubtful - anyone got any suggestions? |

The earpiece is a known design fault, so I am sure that it will be repaired FOC by sending it to SE's repair centre.
You must go via the SE website to get the details of the return address, and a form (Word document) to print, complete and send with it. (It's hardly relevant - but the same company that repairs SE handsets is also the same company Orange uses for doing repairs and sending out new SIM cards, handsets etc) |

Further update - I used the 'Contact Us' link on SE's website shortly after making my last post in this thread, and I have received a response already, with the form to send my phone in for repair.
Many thanks again

Sony Ericson phones have 2 year manufacturers guarantee. Had my C905 repaired twice but only once for the ear piece, the other being a faulty transmitter.
But it is nice when it works! |
