Existing MP3 tracks to iPod Touch

I'm pretty good with hardware etc but iTunes is really annoying me!!

I bought my wife an ipod Touch for Christmas and much of her required music is now on it, but adding new bought music is not proving easy!!

I think it's a format issue but cannot work out how to add new music from MP3/WMA format to the Touch.

I've put them by copy/paste in to the 'user'/music/itunes folder but it doesn'y sync it.

Does it need to convert it to Apple's format? If so how do you get it to do it?

Help appreciated.

Have you actually imported the songs into itunes itself? If you try and import a WMA file into itunes it will prompt you that it will convert the file to MP3 format.

In itunes program click File then Add folder to library or Add file to library.
