This looks a little odd-buying a car you have never seen before?
What are the tyres like and the headlights and the general overall colour?????.
Still if its for charity they might be able to get two or more rich mugs to bid for something like that -they would not much care what the car was-probably give it away to a worthy cause or friend-somewhere-a home where it would be looked after.
Of course the car itself would have to be happy about it -sort of-you can tell if a car is happy-starting/tracking/doughnuttingetc

During which, he managed to alienate me in two minutes flat speaking of how the 9/11 tragedy scuppered his career as a model - talk about, erm, failing to see the bigger picture!

Since he made the remark whilst driving his would-be iconic vehicle, it is on topic.

It seems that some of "Alex's angels" can't take any criticism of their hero in any way, shape or form, even an only very mildly critical observation.

Perhaps so, but I don't remember Jon - or anyone else - ever making a remark that was so irrefutably crass and selfish.

Thats odd Ben...I have watched Alex's audition video many times and whilst I have seen Alex explain how 9/11 had affected the modelling industry, I seem to have missed the bit where he says he didn't care about any of the people killed

..Unless of course he didnt infact say that and some people are just making much more out of a simple comment that was ever intended?

He remarked on how the tragedy took the emphasis away from normal run-of-the-mill news events e.g. the fashion show that was his "big break".

You can split hairs all you like, but speaking about the 9/11 disaster in such frivolous terms - who gives a toss about the modelling industry compared to one of the most genuinely appalling human tragedies of recent years - is really in extremely poor taste.

Nothing Alex ever said or did afterwards really made up for that in my eyes, but then BB3 was full of dreadful people anyway. The only one I came close to liking was Adele, mainly because she seemed to be the only one in possession of a brain.

And if Alex made those commments it was outside the house! Ben, I thought one of your rules was to judge contestants on their behaviour inside the house! :yawn:

Of course on a wider level the two things dont compare, but Alex was making a video about himself, as he had ben asked to do, ..and spoke of how his job had been affected on a personnal level....it was a perfectly accurate statement..and one made by many people whose careers, holidays ect had been ruined..there was nothing tasteless about it...and in no way indicated a lack of compasion for the people who lost their lives in the tragedy.

The way I saw it at the time, Alex was simply giving the truth about why work had been slow in the last few months - ie. why he was ready for a different experience, try something new and why he wanted to go in to the house, which was what the video was all about.
His big break after many years was the Armani campaign which was understandably brushed under the carpet with 9/11 soon after.

I'm sure Alex was not commenting on the tragedy itself, if any of them he is not only politically aware but also sensitive and caring towards others.
Of course most of us (who are not international terrorists or have sympathies in that way) were tremendously upset by 9/11, that goes without saying, including Alex I am sure.
In the short video he was giving his reasons for wanting to go in to the house, no more no less.



ps. As an addition to this, I remember a conversation in the poor bedroom about the subject.
Alex at the time did not know about any controversy towards his video, it was just a general conversation in bed.
Alex spoke about his visiting the WTC when he was in New York and how he found it very hard to reconcile this with what had happened since; he was the only one that spoke with any knowledge or feeling of the subject.

At the time I maybe would have thought the same but having got to know him on BB3 and heard what he had to say since, I realised that the video mention was just an aside on how it had affected him personally and why he wanted to enter the house, not his opinion on the tragedy itself which he spoke about later.

The video was made for the consumption of BB viewers.

It still demonstrated a certain unlikeably flippant "me, me, me" demeanour on his part.

Compared to what happened on 11th September 2001, I'm amazed that some people were stupid enough to complain about ruined jobs/holidays... what rubbish. At least they're still alive. How short-sighted can you get?

I've never actually opined that Alex lacked compassion - I merely found his comments lacking in perspective.

The whole idea of that very short video was purely to get them in to the house, a personal thing as to why they wanted to do it. It was not a political thing of their views of world events in the last year.

When the subject was actually discussed as I said, Alex was the only one with any knowledge or compassion on the subject, the others just listened - more concerned with the latest dance track, how to do the one-legged dance and act up for the cameras, where East Angular was - etc......

If the intro. video was meant to be apolitical, then Alex shouldn't have been crass enough to mention 9/11 in the first place. There really wasn't any need to.

Certainly, Alex might have been knowledgeable later, but it's the video I was commenting on. And yes, I do agree that Alex was ultimately one of the better people in a bunch of utterly atrocious housemates.

He was quirkily distinctive and I suppose that's why he's popular - but I'm afraid I have no genuine enthusiasm for Mr. Sibley whatsoever. I like to be 100% behind the housemates I like - Anna, Darren, Dean, Helen, Jon - and Alex will never merit that degree of commitment from me. The 9/11 comment was one of a couple of moments that prevented me from liking him that much.

I do agree that the 9/11 thing could have been seen as controversial but from what I have seen of him and heard from him since, I am sure it was an aside, maybe unthoughtful in its context but was not intended in that way.

Yes indeed. Alex was never a favourite but I do appreciate that there were far worse than him in the BB3 house - Jonny, Kate, PJ, Spencer, Jade, Alison, Tim, Sandy....

I found them *all* pretty unlikeable, but there were varying levels of unlikeability. Adele and Alex were at the top and Jonny was right down at the bottom.

For me too - Jonny is probably the bottom of all four series' imo!
Cameron comes a close second, then the total wannabe's (Justine etc), but for dislikeable underhand characters I think Jonny still takes the biscuit.
