Take a look back through the numerous posts like this, you will get conflicting information from both Plasma & LCD supporters so the best way is to view as many as possible & see what you like the look of.

I agree with paulr2006 - look at the millions of posts to make your mind up.

For £600 a Plasma will give you a superior image quality compared to a £600 LCD.
Looks like a lot of your TV viewing is also SD so plasma will also suit as they are miles better with SD material- LCD seems to smear and pixelate SD TV

Think about viewing angles as well. If your viewing position is directly in front of the screen LCDs are fine.

If you have more than a couple of people viewing or you sit in the traditional three piece suite setup, where people are viewing more from the side, I would go with a plasma.

Plasma is the better all rounder tech.

Plasma is possibly marginally better in SD and viewing angle but imo LCD thrashes plasma for brightness and detail in HD. I had a Panasonic 42PX60 plasma and recently bought a Sony 52W4500 LCD. It's superb and would never go back to plasma.....but as others have said it all depends on what you see with your own eyes .Some prefer the more "natural" picture of plasma but the superior brightness and sharpness of my LCD does it for me.

But it's not 1080p, which the OP wanted.

It's brilliant, I'd buy it, but it's not 1080p

I know its not 1080p but you'd need to sit near enough with your nose on the screen to see the effect of it,on bigger screens then yes its worth having maybe.
