I'm not a Todd fan, but the voters pays their money and makes their choice. We might not agree with their decision - but the solution is in our own hands: vote for someone else.

I just thought that the show was about Dancing on Ice, as that is what it is called. Todd can hardly stand up on the ice after 7 weeks training, which is bad.

The thing is, yes it was funny when he went off the ice, but it just proves how bad a skater he is, if we want to watch something funny then watch a comedy, not an ice skating show.

I am not being horrible here and it might be entertaining, but it is a reality show about the best skaters and he is not one of them, but if you think that is OK then fine and I am sorry I even made the point.

I wonder why the really bad singers do not win the X Factor, as some of them are really funny and really entertaining, but they never get through, so what is the difference, as that is an entertainment show as well.”

X factor has a serious recording contract at stake and is ordinary people. DOI is a celeb contest with notihing more than celeb pride at stake and is about entertainment. I dont' know why people confuse it with a serious skating competition - it isn't.

The reason the competitive skaters tend to have more falls than they used to is because they are all trying stuff that years ago wouldn't have been considered. Nowadays, doing a double axel is nothing, it's the quad axel that is expected and gets the marks. And (experts can correct me on this) they get much higher marks for attempting a really difficult move, even if it doesn't completely work, than they would if they played safe and did something easier.”

Competitive skaters have always taken falls because they are pushing themselves. A tiny mistake in take off on a jump can result in a fall.

Just have to correct you on the quad axel thing. No-one has yet managed a quad axel in competition, (that would be 4.5 rotations in the air as it's a forward take off jump that lands backwards so single axel is 1.5 rotations). Triple axles are included (not always successfully ) in most short programmes at International level - especially the men's

The most common quad jump is a quad toe-loop.

For jumps they get credit for completed rotations and the more rotations the higher the points value of that element. If they are more than a quarter turn short though, it gets downgraded and they lose a lot of points. The scoring is now incredibly complicated with base values and grades of execution.

I saw part of the championships accidentally today and thought "I hope none of the DOI celebs are watching this." I think it would make them even more nervous.

I also wondered why I stopped watching the skating some years ago and must look out for the competitions in future.

If I was in the show I would be thinking what is the point in training hard all week I will just get pushed round the Ice and nearly fall and I will stay in.

I'm sure all the celebs are pretty well versed in the ways of reality tv by now. Todd is woefully dreadful as a skater but his attitude is great and he entertains much of the audience. DOI is usually one of the better shows when it comes to keeping the true talent. Sure, one or two better skaters will probably be sacrificed in the early weeks but nobody who was ever going to make a real impact in the final stages. I'm not too worried yet. I'm quite happy for him to stick around a couple more weeks.

I think that there are too many couples in the show.
The show is about the learning and progressing side of skating. It is light entertainment. They aren't looking for the next British Olympic champion. I don't like nasty judges comments on these sort of shows and the screaming of "fix." Practical advice and gentle critisism should be enough. Todd may well stay in for a few more weeks but even he could improve as the weeks go on. I find all the couples entertaining and would hate this show to go the same way as the recent bad-tempered unpleasant Strictly Come Dancing went and that is a show I shan't bother to watch again.

Thanks for that - I knew quad jumps came into it somewhere, and as I said, I'm not experienced with skating, but I do watch it on Eurosport, and have yet to get the hang of the - as you said - incredibly complicated scoring.

All I know is, that if you watch back to what all competitive skaters were doing 20-25 years ago, it is nothing like the amazing tricks etc they are doing now. It is the same in competitive dancing, of course.

I'm not a Todd fan either - of him particularly, and certainly not his skating. But he was incredibly funny on Sunday, and although I wouldn't vote for him, I can well understand why others did.

I agree and at the end of the day he'll have to do the set moves every week which I doubt he'll manage - he'll go soon enough.

He actually did the toe step sequence very well. Better than some of the others, scary though that may be!

I think it was pure comedy gold and I love the fact that he rendered Tony Gubba speechless. (I so dislike his commentary that I'm usually ready to put my hand into the screen and yank out his vocal cords! ) As far as I'm concerned, for that alone Todd deserved to go through to next week!

Todd's performance this week was truly memorable but, to be fair, he probably should be out next week unless he shows a remarkable improvement.

I think Ray is also a brilliant entertainer, he's got it all, the whole package, that last performance was just breathtaking. I know when I'm being entertained because I can't take my eyes off the skater.

Todd just has the comic entertainment part in spades, but unfortunately not much else. I am looking forward, very much, to his Bolero.

I agree with your points completely but I've got to ask, how long has it been since you laughed like that at a comedy? I'm thinking one of the Rising Damp episodes but I can't recall if I was in tears with it.

It's like Celebrity fame academy when Ruby Wax came second. She couldn't sing to save her life, but was fabulously entertaining. Same with Tara PT, who won.
As others have said, these aren't supposed to be serious, with contracts at stake etc, they are entertainment for the weekend, and, as such, provide exactly that.

I have never watched DOI at all, but I will now after seeing Todds hilarious routine!.

These celeb shows shouldn't be taken seriously.

It DOESN'T MATTER who wins.

Very true and if people are voting for Todd because he entertained them the most then they are perfectly entitled to do so.

Absolutely! Otherwise there wouldn't be a phone number to vote for Todd. People can vote for whoever they want to.

Personally, there's no one I'd be voting for at this stage of the competition. I'm just enjoying watching the varied performances.

The issue is you've got Ray who is very good and entertaining, then Jessica who is okay and then..........?

Well nothing. The others really are mediocre skaters and entertainers and it is hardly a surprise that they aren't proving as popular as someone who people can laugh at. It's cruel in a way but people would prefer to keep laughing at what Todd is doing than support the 'okay and slowly getting better' skaters.

Except that in series 2, all the skaters were more or less mediocre at the beginning and then Clare and Kyran both became very good. The problem this year the best and worst skaters at the start of the series are too extreme and too polarised. Todd and Ray are on completely different planets.

Personally, I prefer watching the mediocre skaters improve during the run of the series than watching someone who's brilliant from the start. For me, the whole point is that it's novice skaters who we can see improve and imagine ourselves in their position. I could never see myself being anywhere close to as good as Ray Quinn but I wouldn't mind being able to skate like Donal or Ellery. Not brilliant, perhaps, but certainly good enough to enjoy skating.

Which is obviously your personal opinion. Myself, I almost gave up watching the show before Ray skated because at least his routines were entertaining rather than a so-so display.

Skating skill doesn't bother me so much as a lack of performance skill. Too many contestants this year don't seem to have edge there and that is what I think makes it less interesting.

Which is why I made a point of saying it's what I prefer. It's your prerogative to disagree - I don't expect for one moment that everyone will feel the same way I do.
