Recording 2 Programmes and watching another
Hthebloke2

Last night I tried to do what it says on the box. I programmed to record X men and then that thing with Julie Walters whilst promising Mrs Hthebloke2 that we could watch the return of Supernatural. But at 21hrs the Humax decided not to play ball. It was halfway through the X man thing when it flagged up in the top left corner that it was recording Passage to Switzerland or something on BBC HD. But when I tried to go onto ITV2 it kept throwing me onto Film 4 or channel four 97 something. Ended up heading to another room and watching ITV2 on digibox. Is there a reason for it locking me out of Supernatural......or is is "Demons at work???"

Also on a final note.....I am convinced that the picture quality is better on the Digibox....

Assuming you have a standard 2 cable installation.

What you can watch depends on the channels you are recording. Firstly you need to know which transponder the 2 programmes you are recording are on.

A list of channels with the transponder they are on is here (the transponder is the 5 digit number at the end)

Once you know the transponders here's the rules

Recording 2 channels on different transponders
You can watch any other channel that's on the same transponder as either tuner is recording. You can't do anything fancy like pausing live TV on the channels that you can watch.

Recording 2 channels on the same transponder (this only needs one tuner)
You can watch any other channel you like and also do the fancy tricks like pausing live TV

Additionally you can always watch a recorded programme, even the ones currently being recorded in chasing playback.

If you are familiar with twin tuner freeview pvr's and substitute mux for transponder then most offer identical functionality

If I understand correctly, last night would have meant using three different transponders which if I use your explanation, the machine would be right to have locked me out....

Ta very Muchly.

And yes it is the two cable thingy on a quad LNB (2 digiboxes in different rooms and HDR in another)

You got it dead right, more than 2 transponders at once is a no no

Until of course somebody comes up with a triple tuner pvr
