If Westlife want to continue in the music business, then they need to 1. Re-invent themselves and stick to it 2. Take more control of the music they release, why release songs you hate? ”

Well when your not writing your own songs, and are stuck in a 5 album contract only 3 albums in...

Westlife don't need to change Their fans (ie. me) love them for who they are and what they do.

Bit of a strange analagy./.. but when you get married you don't expect people to change because you're "Bored" of them do you? and if you do I guess you'd get a divorce, but yeah why shopuld westlife change jsut because some ppl dont like them?? it's not like they'd like em even if they did change their sound, because they are a POP BAND! and pop os there thang, as well as cheesy ballads which I personally adore.

I suggest people saying htey should change, should listen to a few songs on their new album!! SUch as "Turnaround" and "Thank You" obviously there are ballads but that's their trait that's why they are where they are!

Anyway I LOVE the boys, and i'm going to see them 4 times on tour next year yay! 9 & 10th of april in brighton (2 days before Bryans Bday! yaaaaaaaaaay ) 8th may in wembley and 12th may in dublin!

Oh and also I'd like to remind people they write all their b-sides, and although they've not written any new songs on the alb, they did write a nymber of songs for the "world of our own" album

And ma BRyan has also written songs for/with:

Bryan Adams
Girls Aloud
Eurovision song contest (though it didn't win the song is beautiful!)

Scuse me! shall I explain? who the hell is asking you to sit there and listen to it?!! - havent you got an switch off or tuner on your equipement ( as in electrical/music equipment?! To be honest, I prefer a good cover to a blooming rotten self-written song. Mandy's OK and WLoif does it justice. They were against it but Scowell persuaded them otherwise. Thats the name of the game when you get a music contract, the label is the boss and you have to tow the line unfortunately. Better to be in work than out - just like in the real world.

hmm scuse me!!! i understand no one is makin me sit there! what i am saying is for some reason, im not gonna admit to liking the song at all but, 'something' makes me sit there and listen to it ?????? and that annoys me, i do like flying withoit wings so maybe its the soppy factor which makes me listen and theres jingly christmas noises in the background and ima sucker for crimbo, soooo the jingling hypnotises me to sit there and makes me enjoy it but ewwwww!!!! wo i worked it out!

Like them or not, its hard to deny that Westlife are very good at what they do.

Take That were the modern day boyband template.

Boyzome took over from Take That and Westlife took over from Boyzone. Timewize this was almost seemless. In March 96 Take That was over, by summer 96 Boyzone had their first number one. In the same month Boyzone had their last single, Westlife had their first. So if Westlife disbanded tomorrow, the chances are another band of he same sort of format would capture their success within months.

They've had 26 number ones between them (assuming Mandy tops the charts). There is definate strong market for middle of the road, nice guy boy bands, without trying to be clever or fit in a particular niche, or tring to create a different sound. Mandy proves that. Pure clean-cut cheesiness. A song that doesn't excite by the centre ground boy band that is now 4.5 years old.

The question is how long can Westlife go on? Take That and Boyzone's charttopping time period only lasted just over 2.5 years each. But they disbanded before we knew how long their shelf life was. Will their young fans grow up with them? Yes I think they will.

It doesn't help when they said themselves their last album was cr*p. So why inflict it on us then? I do have their Greatest Hits though I don't think they'll be around much longer. As soon as a boyband tries to go all grown up, they lose their fans. Fans are so fickle, they'll move onto the next big thing.

I don't have a problem with boybands at all, Take That were mine and I don't think they were ever topped but they have to be allowed to grow up and move on.

Can't see me buying another Westlife Greatest Hits Part Two as I'm not liking any of their new songs.

Mandy is not a good cover. Didn't like Barry Manilow singing it either. And he pinched it from whoever - the original was called Brandy? What next? Candy, Randy, Sandy?

Now i dont mind West Life that much.......And i seem to remember them saying they are going to change their style of music form now on!

However this song doesnt sound no different from the rest of the ballards they ahve already put out and also its pretty forgettable!

So yes i do think its a crap song, but the little girlies will probably put it straight to number one

Oh and by the way pi r squared.........i didnt like this song because i dont like boybands or i dont like pop.......I just dont like it period !

(Sorry not meaning to be rude there)

So it seems they have

I`m starting to think that some people will buy anything a group puts out even if it is a load of crap like this, just cause they like how the group looks.

No, D-side are the replacements for Westlife, they are apprentice's at the moment, but just wait six months for "the" announcement.

Excuse me!

Westlife are number 1, because people like their stuff, not because of how they look or for any other reason, because they released an amazing song. SO WHAT if it's a cover, people ALWAYS complain about htat, but somebody must be buying it to make it number 1!!!

Personally I feel "Tonight" would have been more deserving of a number 1, and it does shock me that it only charted at 3, but.. nevertheless 12 number ones in 5 years,is more succesful then any other boyband I can name for you.

And Dside are not taking over westlife! I've met them 3 times now and they are great lads , saw them live on saturday supporting Blue and they are brilliant live! As are westlife.. there is room for more then 1 irish band you know!

I think it's time for them to start writing there own material

Westlife are at the top of their particular genre of bands (surely people don't consider Blue even remotely as talented?) and Simon Cowell knows exactly what will and what won't make a number one pop record.

So, he tells them to record 'Mandy' and they get a number one. Can't see a problem with that myself... and the fireworks in the video look great too

I actually went to see Westlife live last year and, as someone who'd previously considered themselves not a fan, I have to say, they were very, very impressive and gave their fans exactly what they wanted and put on a value for money show.

Sure, they're maybe not as 'trendy' as the likes of Muse or Radiohead but at least most people can stand to listen to them for more than 40 seconds

Very true AV. A lot of music snobs dismiss them, but what they do, they do the best and their appeal is very wide.

Number 1 single last week. Number 1 album this week (I bet)

Something Kylie, Britney, Ronan and The Beatles releases have not acheived.

To borrow a 'Top Tip' from Viz...

Kids! Don't waste money buying Westlifes 'Greatest Hits' album. Simply buy one of their singles and play it over and over and over again.

I have one thing to say on the subject.

Mandy?
Blandy more like!

Having listened to both versions and considered their relative merits objectively and carefully I have reached the conclusion that I would rather saw my own leg off with a rusty hacksaw than hear either of them ever again.

How did this win song of the year?

What about the darkness, the first decent song we've had for about two years and it don't win.

With Westlife winning Record of the Year with Mandy, the Record of the Year acolade has lost any creditability it had.

The original Mandy was a great song, but Westlife sucked all emotion and feeling out of it.

That record will be forgotton in a matter of months.

In years to come, play someone 'Crazy in Love' by Beyonce or 'Where is the love?' by Bird's Eye Peas and then 'Mandy' by Westlife and then ask them to which won Record of the Year, they will think you're having a laugh!

I suppose the next thing we'll have is people claming their better than the Beatles as they will soon have more number 1's. Music is no longer as important as it was, and bands publisize ther records a month before they come out and count all the pre-sales on the day of launch. The net result is a number 1 record that lasts all of 1 week and gets put on a Hits album within a month. The days of records selling millions every week and staying at number one for weeks seem to be long gone, so no comparison is valid.

Getting to No.1 is one of the most devalued achievements in recent years. I reckon it started with Take That.

With enough money and marketing power, you can get a get a track of fart noises to enter the charts at No.1!

Maybe we should adopt the US Billboard system where (I've been told) that sales are calulated from 4-week culmulative sales, therefore preventing songs from going in at No.1
