Some say "It's a competition!"

Others say (often in very condescending and patronising ways) "When will people understand that it's a light entertainment show?"

The latter type are probably the most irritating, because they usually assume an air of those talking patiently to children, whilst completely failing to realise that they are themselves completely missing the point.

So now it's my turn...

Why do people assume it has to be one or the other? The two aren't mutually exclusive! It's a competition. It's a light entertainment show. IT'S BOTH!!! As such it needs to fulfill the criteria for both.

There, simple!

And I really don't care how patronising that sounded.

ps actually I agree, and so will all the peeps who think it's a competition until their favourite is knocked out by an entertainer...

Well that's just it, isn't it. I agree it's both and to an extent want both. But the second an "entertainer" knocks out someone I truly want to see progress because of how much I like seeing them, then it all becomes very annoying.

So it IS both, but I wouldn't use the term mutually exclusive, because it's very much in the favour of "competition" for me.

and I think I'll patent the phrases

1) entertition

2) competainment

It's something else as well....it documents a learning process. They are all learning, although some are learning faster than others - and some, it seems, have little left to learn besides the quadruple toe loop!

At last, somebody talking some sense and pointing out the fact that although people DO generaly want the best skater to win, people also DO want to be entertained, it is BOTH! And I personally am still hooked on the show and think it fills the criteria for both brilliantly - well spoken Diva Moon
