dont understand the scoring. I thought Roxanne had brilliant steps and skates on her own yet Coleen was praised for being carried about????

I love Nicky give me him as a judge over Ruthie any day of the week!
Does Ruthie actually know anything at all about ice skating? |

I like his positive approach too, but I'd also like to see some consistency.

I've always thought that Karen, Nicky and Robin were reasonably right with their scorings... usually marking in accordance with programme content and actual skating ability.
On the other hand Jason usually gives the most marks to the person who is carried the most but waves their arms about with "nice lines". I understand that both him and Ruthie are there to mark the artistic/performance side rather than the skating but seeing as it's a skating competition I feel they should take skating ability into consideration as well. Nicky's marking was a bit all over the place last week ... even if as he says he was told to score in terms of "placings" rather than actual marks then he still had Colleen higher than Jessica which seemed a bit unfair. I'm not sure if this is the case, but I thought that the judges watched a dress rehearsal in the afternoon so could get some idea of where the skaters should be placed on the leader board and who they are better than. Of course they have to allow for the performance on the night but I always thought that they would have some idea what to expect. The comment from Nicky that Robin had advised him on what position to mark people in led me to believe that Robin at least had watched the rehearsals and had given the judges some guidance about what marks to give. |

I think Nicky scores on improvement on the previous week, Jessica was more or less as able as last week, but Colleen had improved more, although I do think his marking should start lower. Ruthie appears to know nothing by her scoring, some of her scores at the side of ALL the other judges are very low and her remarks are awful. I personally like Colleen's routine, it made me smile, I wasn't as entertained with Melinda's or Jessica's,

I just think Robin had been told HOW good Ray was and that it wouldn't be good for the show if they gave out 6's across-the-board too early (a distinct possibility if comparing Ray against the other skaters).
I'm guessing that the other judges adjusted all their marks downwards (making 5 the top possible score) and marked accordingly. Nicky didn't seem to do this, which made his scores seem very high - ie. 4.5 turned from a good to very good score to near-perfect. |
