RichmondBlue: get onto google, I think it was at least 7 years ago I saw such an exhaustive test like that... and only 2 or 3 years ago my preconceptions about LCD were shattered when I went to help a mate get one...

no viewing angle problems, I could even lie on the floor below it, and see the screen!
the guy in Comet says they have had NO returns for faults due to pixels, the contrast ratio is enormous...

BUT do watch out for 'cheap bargains', as skinflint demand increases..

here's a old artilcle..

as with most, expect one to leapfrog the other, you will have to read up on all the tech stuff from the latest CES show!

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully my Panny LCD will be good for a few years yet, unless I am unable to resist some new advances in technology.
I will pass on that link ( and other advice here) to my son, he is talking about buying a Blu-Ray player and new tv.

Just thought I would add...

It seems a lot of the very cheap LCDs being sold are actually 5 or more years old! So of course have all the old problems.. Hey if these cheapskates want it cheap, they will sell it to them... and of course they come on various forums moaning about it, to be put right mainly on Avforum, about making sure the 'panel tech' is the latest..

So If you have a big superstore near you, go out and have proper look, as well as the research..
