Hi,

I was looking on the itv dancing on ice website and it has a 'best of' section and one of them is when clare did a backflip. I would love to see this but can't seem to find it anywhere. can anyone tell me what routine it was (they were wearing gold costumes) and also where i could find a clip? thanks

I don't know about Claire but while you're waiting take a gander at this.

Robin in his prime - nobody backflips better than he did!

He was a fantastic skater - that backflip was known as his 'trademark' - I believe he
was the first skater to do it (it wasn't allowed in the amateur competitions, he did it when he turned pro).

It is amazing. I didn't realise he was so good (even tho i knew he had won gold!!)!!

I would always feel quite scared watching someone do it, you never know if they will get it right but i guess that is the same with a lot of the moves skaters do.

Thank you so much for that. Technical brilliance and incredible perfomance all in one. Robin deserves his position as head judge imo.

We had another gold medallist before Robin Cousins, John Curry who won Olympic Gold in 1976. His style was totally different, more like a ballet dancer. Sorry I can't get the YouTube link, but if you go to YouTube and put the following in search, you'll see what I mean.

You're welcome, I was a huge fan of Robin (and an even bigger fan of T&D).

Robin had it all. Huge height on his jumps, technically very good but also very artisitic (which many male skaters lacked, particularly in the dark ages ).

I watched John Curry, Robin Cousins and Torvill & Dean all win their golds. Somehow I couldn't engage with John Curry though - although that could very possibly be because I was too young to appreciate his artistry. I love watching T&D and Robin though.

Thanks for that Fondantfancy, I can't believe I'd forgotten how good this performance really was (I always enlikened it to Charlie Chaplin on ice, sheer magic). Perhaps this should be required viewing for all the celebrities so they can see what he means when he says combine technical with entertainment.

I sometimes think, especially with the female celebrities there are too many lifts for the music to be interpreted properly (all show and little substance). Anyone else think so?

Milagrosa - I agree they tend to show off their skating skills less than the males as they are in hold more frequently, however I have to confess to loving the balletic and acrobatic lifts.

I like watching the male contestants best, their job is harder as they have to perform lifts which I feel takes more skill than being lifted.

Thanks from me too, fondantfancy.

Wow, that was amazing. I had forgotten how brilliant Robin was. Totally amazing! Watching it, you never feel nervous for him, you can just tell he'll be able to pull everything off, he's so good.

The other judges should be priviledged to be able to have an opinion against someone in his league! That was incredible!

Robin is an incredible skater, i was lucky enough to accompany someone when they went to train wiht him and his ease on the ice is absolutely amazing. One of my favourite moments in all of skating was watching him one session just improvising some footwork and messing around.

To be fair to Nicky and Karen though, they were no slouches at their peak and were perhaps unlucky to have skated in the shadow of T &D

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=q7zsRr...eature=relatedThis dragon dance is just beautiful, perfect symmetry, fantastic choreography and some perfect lifts, undermarked for sure, it was so graceful

I remember watching the Chaplin dance and loving it but watching it again all these years later has brought a whole new level of respect for Karen and Nicky. These old routines should really be in a thread of their own to get the kudos they so richly deserve.

Incredible, it makes me value his opinion as head judge on DOI a lot more now.
