I've had a scout around for a thread on this topic - please post a link if there's one already?

A moan: The audience are so full of whoops and screams, they're spoiling my pleasure as a viewer. I like enthusiasm, but they squeal and clap at absolutely everything and it's getting too much for my ears to cope with. Nice they're all enjoying themselves in there - but shouldn't they give a thought for us lot out being aurally assaulted with high-pitched wooooo after wooooooo ??

Is it just me being a grump or are they whooping up the crowd too often for your liking too ? And what could we do about it ?

I'm amazed that the words "dancing on ice" and "pleasure as a viewer" have gone together in the first place.

It has to be one of the worst and most utterly pointless shows on television.

I agree wholeheartedly OP.

I was going to start a thread on this topic myself.

The overly rowdy audience are spoiling the show. They get worse with each series.

You do realise that the show has a floor manager who's job is to whip up the crowd at specific moments. So I think the cheering and whooping is very much as the producers intend.

I find the show quite loud anyway. From Pip and Holly shouting to the music and crowd. I dont however think it diminishes my enjoyment of the show.

I hate it too. The worst offenders this series are Coleen Nolan's supporters. They're by far the loudest lot I've heard.

But I have the same problem with TXF and BGT too, and while I know it's probably the producers encouraging the noise I wish they wouldn't. It adds nothing to the show apart from irritation and it just makes the audiences look/sound like a load of drunken chavvy yobs.

Sure, they're annoying, but why have so many threads about all the negatives of the show instead of the positives? If you watch the show and all you want to do is say what's wrong about it then don't bother watching it. And for posters who say what a pointless show it is, well pointless is also posting in a forum of a show you don't even watch (apparently).

Why waste your time posting about it then?

Quite clearly you've watched it - how many times I wonder?

You can like something but still find things about it annoying. There is nothing wrong with venting. It is healthy within reason.

I agree wildchild, I enjoy the programme but the audience's whooping and shrieking gets on my nerves. Can you imagine what its like sitting near Coleens supporters, I would take ear muffs if I were going to see it live

I enjoy the enthusiasm of the audience, it adds to the atmosphere.

The audience gets on my nerves too and is one of the reasons I have not become as hooked on DOI as I am on SCD.

It is the noise when the couples are skating I hate the most - the shrieking and screaming is at a totally OTT level. I'm all for audience support, but you'd think teeny boppers had taken over the arena (showing my age now)

As someone who has been in the studio we are told to behave in this way its what we get instructed to do before the show starts.

I think they do the same on SCD but it doesn't seem so bad, probably because of the differences in the location where the show is recorded - an ice rink is like a barn!

I find the clapping along to the music (usually on the wrong beat, if they can find the beat at all) on SCD much more annoying than the cheering crowd on DOI.

i agree they can be annoying, especially when the results are being announced.

I like the show but the audience do get annoying, screaming and cheering when ever anyone does a lift, a jump etc, a bit of clapping would be ok, but when they are that loud that they are blocking out the music its too much.

It is annoying, because when i was at school and there was awards being given out or something, the person talking at the front would always say don't clap till the end, and i totally agree with that. Can't the audience wait till the performance is over then clap and cheer???

Those who think the clapping and cheering etc loud on doi, should try going to a some dance competitions! We have been to some where whilst trying to compete it has been practically impossible to hear the music! On such occasions it can be quite difficult to dance on time with the music!

But most dancers love it. It not only adds to the atmosphere, but hearing your own name or numbers being called out by the spectators give you a real lift!

I read on the SCD board the audience is asked not to clap on the beat, but still in time (like 1 2 1 2 1 2 - where 2 is the beat you clap on 1) - it made sense when i read it and is meant to stop the audience's clapping affecting the dancers. My husband thought this was fab because he always claps off the beat anyway - he can't help it!

I find the clapping irritating and the over booing of judges comments. Okay some of the things Jason says are worthy of a boo, but it's all a bit pantomime for my taste.

Hi there Buddy.

As TracyUK said the warm up man Andy tells you to clap, shout and cheer when they come on, or do something special to encourage them. He also tells you to boo the judges if they say something you don't agree with especially Jason. When you're in the studio it all adds to the atmosphere.

Clapping to the music is the worst crime. Just don't! OK?

It's also really, really naff

The booing of every criticism the judges make is very tedious.
