Two basic choices, the VM V+ which like SKY+, Freesat+ and Freeview PVR's use their internal tuners to record directly to the hard drive the exact broadcast so no loss in quality. The other choice is a pretty standard DVDr with hard drive which takes the RGB output of a set top box and encodes it using mpeg2 onto the hard drive for playback, editing and/or burning to disk.
Personally the integrated PVR approach is gods gift to anyone that likes television but if you want to record content and stick on a shelf then the DVDr with HDD is the only choice, of course given the prices you could have both. |
