I cant say Im a big DOI fan but I did see Todds first attempt.
I have seen alot of SCD including all of the JS saga. The problem with shows like these is where entertainment ends and competition starts. Im with you-Todd cant skate from all accounts and I would doubt that someone who starts that bad is going to get better at all within this timescale.JS on SCD was getting up to a million more votes than the eventual winner at the time of his resignation. JS winning was a real possibility but would have been ridiculous in the extreme,as the others were putting their whole life and soul into the competition that is SCD.

It may be that Todd departs, as he isnt going to survive the bottom two I assume-but a few more weeks and no doubt MP's will be wading in with their opinions again.

Very Brittish all this.

At the press conference Sergeant appeared bemused by the fuss that has erupted over his participation – but insisted it was his own decision to go.

Many people seem to be losing sight of the fact that 'Dancing On Ice' is an entertainment show, not a regimented competition.

oh gawd not this old chestnut again...

all these celeb based 'learn a new skill' things are either

a) compertainment
or
b) entertition

you have to include elements of both AJ otherwise what's the point in voting for a winner??

What did they say that was slagging, and when did they say it? (Any comments made after the situation developed can't have caused it.)

Quote:
“ They were outraged at the public for voting to keep John safe and made their feelings very clear on several occasions. It didn't help when James added his voice on SCD either, I suspect many viewers saw that as being told that voting for John was wrong. In effect, telling people who not to vote for.”

Some people may have seen something as telling them how to vote; that doesn't mean they were actually told how to vote. But I'd be interested if anyone can find any verifiable direct quote that shows any judge telling people how to vote or "dictating" (as some put it) how to vote.

I hope Todd isn't bullied out of the show by the "it's not fair" brigade. It is a show to entertain the viewers, good or bad. Sometimes I don't agree with the judges comments on some of the others but it's just a show and I am still enjoying it. Todd is hilarious and he is trying very hard to skate. To be honest I like seeing them triumph and get through their routines. A few near falls are what the show is supposed to be about and watching the skaters improve each week. I am loving this series so far. It is a shame it is a competition at all.

In the end it is a competition and when we get people including presumably you voting for someone just because that are very bad it turns the show from being enjoyable to a farce.

Its now clear that substantial numbers are just voting for the worst performer.

Todd was hilarious last week but this week the issue was forced and it became unfunny.

There's no guarantee that John Sargeant would have won Strictly just because he was topping the poll at the time he left. Viewers get bored and support better acts towards the end. It'll be the same with Todd, too, I daresay. Personally, though I found him hilarious last week, I'm getting bored with both him and Colleen now, and wish that Michael had stayed and that Melinda had been spared another confidence-crushing skate off.

I don't see how Todd can last much longer, even with public support.

If the required elements get more and more difficult, I don't think he'll be able to cope. During last night's required element, they just seemed to stand still on the ice; I don't think he was skating at that point.

It would be a farce if he ever got 0 from the judges but still avoided the skate off.

Why would it be a farce?

It might not be a farce but it'd be irritating and painful to have to keep watching him! I like Todd, he seems a lovely guy; I just don't like his skating!

Robin's groan of pain last night was hilarious!

I don't dislike him at all but still want him to go (eventually) purely because he can't skate, will be fun to have him around for a few more weeks though for entertainment, certainly don't want him to win though!

Quote:
“Farce:

1. a light, humorous play in which the plot depends upon a skillfully exploited situation rather than upon the development of character.
2. humour of the type displayed in such works.
3. foolish show; mockery; a ridiculous sham.

Going by the dictionary definition, I suppose it could be termed a farce but I prefer to think of it as "extremely unfortunate and rather annoying"

I felt bad for Todd last night: he was never going to top last week's performance for the reception it got from so many people and judging by his expression when the voting results came in he seemed a lot more conflicted about being voted back in than he was last week. I wanted him to follow last week by improving his skating but instead the routine focused on more gimmicks. Now I am sure T&D are well intentioned and trying not to challenge him too much where they feel he might struggle and risk injury, but at the same time I would like to see his basic skating improve and for this to be the focus of next week's routine.

Ah so Henri Bourassi it is then "There is no greater farce than to talk of democracy. To begin with, it is a lie; it has never existed in any great country.". Got it

Gutted Michael had to go. I wouldn't dream of telling anyone how to vote but Todd's not even funny. Lets hope in the Olympics we don't have talentless people taking part. I was under the impression that one had to be good to carrying on being part of a competition. I've obviously got this wrong. Todd equals no talent, (even his acting is terrible) but hey, just like everything else, we reward people who have nothing to offer.

I completely agree, its now a joke too far.
its becoming embarrassing to watch...ive never seen anything so inept as his performance last night.
Excruitating to watch...its so wrong that Michael and Melinda while not great skaters themselves were forced into a skate off.
It makes a mockery of the show,of Todd and of us the viewers.what the hell does someone flailing on the floor doing the dying fly have to do with ice dancing please??
It made me want to headbutt the coffee table when he got through.

I would go one further and say that precisely because I think he's a lovely guy he should not be drawn into the clown role in the show. I want to see them try to improve his skating now and not focus on tricks that last night did not evem seem to be that crowd-pleasing.

Id love to see him improve but the question is can he??
They made him look an absolute fool with the routine they gave him last night...and i say that with no great pleasure.
If i was Mrs Todd Carty i wouldnt be very happy to see my husband humiliated like that.
the problem is people are laughing at him not with him and thats not nice.
