the problem is people are laughing at him not with him and thats not nice.”

I dont think they liked having to give him that but what else could they do with someone thats in a skating competition but cannot skate. Unless he is being held up he falls over. What the hell can you give him.

Unless he can dramtically improve next week he would be better of pulling out. He is just making himself look a daft fool.

Agreed. Actually it's Susie I feel sorry for, she never asked to be part of a comedy duo. It's Todd's choice to stay in but she can hardly resign from her job can she (actually that might be a good idea! )

I hadn't noticed an immense backlash of negativity against Todd, but then I don't read the papers. As for the judges, they were just being honest. Sorry, but they were.

I loved Todd last week, it was funny, but last night's "performance" was not even particularly funny, though I won't knock Todd himself.

Todd is lovable and while he stays he'll do the best he can to be entertaining but if he stays next week on the strength of a performance like he gave last night, then I rather pity those poeple who keep him in because they think that's "entertainment". He will also be staying at the expense of someone with more skating potential. I hope that doesn't happen, but I'm afraid it will. However, he's a gent and he'll be fine with it, and no-one should condemn him for it because he's a professional and will fulfill his contract.

I would never knock him as long as he doesn't play the old "The public will keep me in, this is a democracy, you know" card. But I'm sure he knows better than to do that, considering the relative obscurity that sort of media manipulation sent John Sargent back to (unless someone knows something I don't, which is of course highly likely!).

If he were a dislikeable man i might laugh but he seems a lovely guy and last night went beyond self parody in my opinion.
you couldnt even compare him to John Sargeant....he makes JS seem like Justin Timberlake in comparison.
Last night i actually felt a little sad and very uncomfortable for him.

I find it a little sad that the public insist on keeping people like him in these kinds of shows at the expense of better performers.

Have the public nothing better to do than try and ruin good shows?

I would hazard a guess that your first post was condescending to the rest of the 'public', as if they/we are a separate entity to you, if they/we do not agree with your definition of 'better' and 'good'

It would be a farce if he ever got 0 from the judges but still avoided the skate off.”

Actually the required element "toe steps" was about the only thing that he did do well on Sunday. He was holding on to Susie but they were better then some of the others. It is quite a diffiicult skill to do that grapevine step on your toepicks which is what he did.

The rest of it however was unfortunately dire and while the previous week was very funny I think even Todd would agree it's time to go now.

The dreaded JS seemed pleased to be kept in SCD and encouraged people to vote for him but I think Todd has more integrity and is probably hoping that people will not continue to keep him in because I don't imagine he wants to be a JS figure.

He will go down in history anyway as at our rink if anyone falls we now say 'Oooops I did a 'Carty''

Ah, I see. I hadn't thought of it like that. You really have to be careful what you say, don't you, as the written word can be badly misconstrued.

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll be more careful in subsequent posts.

No problem Shirensi. I agree that the written word is often miscontrued and offense can be taken where none is intended. Usually when that is the case the genuine and friendly posters apologise.

I disagree don't be more careful, just print what you feel, and take no notice of any unpleasant stuff, I know that it can be difficult though.

I think posters should be sensitive to the opinions of others and understand that we cannot all agree of who we want to vote for, and our reasons for voting, be it entertainment or skating prowess. Personally, I vote for technical improvement. I would vote for the ability to create laughter in a comedy talent show. But each to their own!

I'm easy to please and vote for the person who I enjoyed watching the most. Usually they have good technical and performance ability. Although I appreciate some vote for their favourite personality.

Because it would have got to the point where one, or more, of the judges - the experts - didn't feel they could award him any marks at all. Yet the public would still be voting for him as a skater they wanted to see remain in the show.

As Nicky said on Sunday, he's doing very little skating as it is; the routine got harder and Todd's marks went down.

I think the only reason his marks went up from 7.5 in week 1 to 9.5 in week 3 was because he was unintentionally very entertaining that week. On the other hand, week 4 was just awful and so there was no reason to be generous in the marking.

Although Robin's 0.5 just for not falling over (Robin said he gave 0.5 for the spiral, 0.5 for the lunge and 0.5 for staying on his feet) could be said to be generous, I suppose

Yes but the required element on Sunday wasn't the toe steps, it was that move where both people had to skate in unison on one foot. (I don't know the technical name for it, I only started watching this recently.) And actually he wasn't skating at that point, he just stood still. Robin only gave him .5 for it.

The toe steps were week 3 - and he also did them well that week, funnily enough.

This week was a pairs spiral. He's done a spiral every week so far but usually a solo one so Susie can push or pull him around and this week, because he had to do it with Susie, he didn't manage it very well.

I do agree that he did the toe steps well though, that surprised me.
