Just a quick question I want to connect a dvd player to a monitor. My dvd player has s-video and component outputs. My monitor has both VGA and DVI inputs. Is it worth buying a lead/adaptor or forget the whole idea?

A cable on it's own won't work. You'll need a box called a scan converter to change component video in to data rate RGB that the PC monitor can understand.

Ebay vendors will probably flog you cheap bits of tat that don't give great results. The right way to do it is with a JS Technologies YUV to VGA Converter. Ball park £90 - £100.

Or you could buy a new PC monitor with a video input for similar money, or you could play the DVDs on your computer, or you could forget the whole thing.

Which ever way you decide it ain't going to involve a £10 cable unless you have a very special monitor.
