Jason tells it how he is. The only times that I have been at a loss to understand his comments were in the first series when he kept saying how elegant Gaynor was.

At least they've managed to get him dressed properley this year , his Albert Steptoe look last years was awful. The point is , if he's such a expert , then why doesnt he get off his backside show us how it should be done. Let him don some skates & give us a masterclass in what should be being done. No he just waffles on , any fool can say what he says , at least if theres a energy crisis in the near future we wont be short on hot air.

Its why the increasingly orange Schofied has to keep shouting all the time , turn your microphone on you idiot.

He's not an expert on skating, and no one has ever claimed he is, he and Ruthie are there to judge the overall presentation, the artistic bit, the dance bit and how good the whole thing looks.

Neither of them know anything about skating techniques, and they're not supposed to be judging that, that's for the three skater experts who do.

Then it would seem that if ITV need to cut costs then windbags who dont know how to skate yet pontificate at great length about irrelevances should be the first for the chop.

3 judges who know about skating would be far better. Its like going on Dragons Den & being told your business plan isnt upto much by someone who only knows about how to print nice business cards. Total waste of time & effort. Cut the waffle merchants & stick with the proffesionals. Given that Robin Cousins was a Olympic skater then he should be perfectly capapble of giving views on presentation & artistic merit.

Nicky, Karen and Robin can critique the artistic and musical interpretation and presentation on ice as experienced ice dance skaters, which is a lot harder to do than on stage imo, so I also find the presence of Jason and Ruthie surplus to requirement. I can only conclude that they are the 'format' pantomime 'put down' judges and Ruthie was only brought in to make the numbers odd thus removing the pressure from Robin of having to give a casting vote in th event of a tie

Robin and Jason nearly always say the same thing. The difference is that Robin is constructive while Jason can be too sarcastic and scathing.

I did think that last night Jason was trying to be constructive for the most part so it was a shame that he got quite so much stick from the audience.
I suspect though that some of his less than tactful comments in the past have caught up with him set him up for a heckling every time he opens his mouth.

If you look at some of the behind the scenes webvids on ITV and Phillip Schofield's website, you can see that the audience is encouraged by the floor managers to boo at Jason.

Has Robin been going on about anyone's "core"?

Re scathing vs constructive, I agree, and would add:

Jason seems biased against certain of the celebs; Robin doesn't.

Jason turns many of his points into accusations and tries to make them hurt; Robin doesn't.

Jason often makes a big deal of relatively minor matters, so that I wonder if he does it because he doesn't know enough about the more important things to comment on them; Robin doesn't.

I didn't say they always say the same thing, just nearly always. If you look at Robin's webvid on ITV he says as much himself, however, he points out that he doesn't say things in the same manner as Jason, which is what I was trying to say by pointing out Robin is constructive and Jason sarcastic and scathing.

Apart from that, I agree with all the rest of your points.

I remember that with confusion. I'm still to this day not sure that he didn't mean to say "elephant".

So do the other judges, but they aren't rude in their delivery.

Why people believe being honest and being polite are mutually exclusive is beyond me. It is possible to be both.

The point is, Karen, Nicky and Robin are not only better qualified to judge the technique, but they are also in a better position to assess the performance side of things given they were professional ice dancers.

Jason and Ruthie's roles are actually redundant.

What goes round comes round. He's rude so he can expect rudeness back.
