I have a new Sony and connected a cable box and DVD player (through a scart splitter) to AV1 and a VCR to AV2 but all three show up on screen as AV1.
Two questions:
1) Why does the VCR not show as AV2?
2) Can I get rid of the AV1 symbol in the top left hand side of the screen.

Either it's not plugged in AV2, or you've relabelled AV2 as AV1.

Press the same button you pressed to make it appear - 'i+' - at the top left.

Nigel,
Thanks for your reply. Your answer to no. 2 solved the problem.
As for the other, the VCR is definitly plugged into AV2. When I access the menu AV2 is empty. I haven't labelled or assigned names to any ports. Any further suggestions? Thanks
I think this great TV is let down by a poorly written manual.

Start from scratch - unplug everything - then plug just the VCR in to AV2 and see what happens then.

Recent Sony manuals have been absoluitely terrible!.

With everything unplugged and then the VCR connected to AV2 the result is a blank screen.
Connect Virgin box to AV1 and both work and both register as AV1.
Any suggestions, is the TV faulty or am I missunderstanding something with AV2 in the Sony TV.
I had an identical set up on the previous CRT TV and AV2 registered as such.

I would suggest you have the VCR connected to your Virgin box?, which is why I said disconnect EVERYTHING - then connect the TV SCART on the VCR to AV2 on the TV. Currently I suspect you have the TV SCART on the VCR connected to your Virgin box. It's labelled TV SCART for a reason.

Nigel,
Thanks for the time you've taken to consider and reply to my question. I just wanted to understand what was happening as I had no problem with the old TV.
I connected the DVD player as it has no input source to AV2 and it worked correctly displaying AV2.
I will leave it there and connect the VCR via a splitter along with the Virgin box to AV1.
The Virgin box has two outputs, so one to TV & other to VCR to allow recording.

Just to clear things up.
I started again from scratch and discovered that I had stupidly put the scarts to the VCR the in the wrong plugs.
Without the help and advice given on this forum I might never have realised.
So thanks again and I'll go and stand in the corner for half an hour.
