Hi I have a Sony W4000 40" with Sky + (as I wont be tempted by Sky HD, for now anyway). I also have a Sony S350 Blu-ray player and my kids use a Wii at weekends, input via component cables.

So I guess I am thinking about surround sound, but I am no expert. The HTIS100 seems less intrusive than other systems, but I could do with some help on inputs? or how the wireless adaptor / rear speaker works??

I imagine the W4000 and the Sky+ , S350 are all connected to the HTIS100 via HDMI, but what about the Wii?

Oh just remembered that Sky+ isn't HDMI, so how do I connect it?

Any help would be appreciated. As I mentioned, not an expert as you can probably gather, just looking for the right system with the least amount of disruption to my living room as possible and minimum carpet lifting!

Thanks for reading

Oh just remembered I use Apple TV to stream my iTunes to my TV which is HDMI - I need help!!!

Hi John,
The HT-IS100 is pretty well specified as far as connections for an all-in-one, so hooking up your current gear should be pretty straight forward.

As you correctly guessed, the Sony S350 will connect via HDMI. The plug goes in to the input labelled BD IN on the Sony

Sky+ has an optical audio output for sound. Connect that to the SAT IN on the Sony and that takes care of the sound. For picture from Sky I would suggest going direct to the TV on a SCART; you just have to remember to turn the TV down when using the Sony surround system; this is exactly what those of use with a separate AV amp do as well. There are two reasons why you should connect up this way...
1) Convenience - Sometimes you or other members of your family (?) will just want to watch Sky on the TV. Connecting with a SCART gives picture and sound without any hassle.
2) The Sony has Component inputs as an alternative to HDMI. A Sky box doesn't give Component (Y, Pb, Pr / Y, Cb, Cr). To make use of those inputs you'll need to buy a RGB to Component converter. Something worth buying will cost you £100.

The Wii will connect to the input labelled VIDEO. You will use the Yellow, White and Red leads. The Sony will convert the picture and send it out to the TV via the HDMI connection (same input on the TV as the Bluray).

Apple TV - I think you'll get picture and sound via the HDMI. If so then plug it into the HDMI input labelled DVD IN.

That should take care of everything you need

Hope that helps

Regards

Chris

Chris

Thanks for your reply, very helpful.

Unfortunately I am going to have to rethink things. I wanted a system which I could hide away or just put by the side of the unit that the TV sits on but the gap is only 125mm, obviously the HTiS100 is much wider.

So its back to the drawing board!

Thanks anyway

125mm - flippin 'eck; that's not a lot of room - less than 5" in old money Good luck

I know I was talking to someone from Sony yesterday who reckons they have a lot of new Home Cinema stuff coming out in March, different units that match up with the golf ball type speakers the HTIS100 use, so we shall see.

I guess I am looking for something that isn't invented yet, a true wireless system!

I have been looking at some of the Sonos stuff but I am not sure about it to be honest.

Thanks

I supply Sonos, so if you have questions then fire away...but Sonos isn't a surround system and it still needs wired speakers or an amp with wired speakers.
