It seems so handy, A bowl of say Rice Crispies, just add milk, quick and handy. However getting up on a cold winters morning, the thought of cereal and ice cold milk just doesn't do it for me. I'd rather have a nice mug of tea and toast. Where is the attraction?

I do hot milk and a cocktail of cereals. for example

a bit of a weetabix, some shreddies, sometimes a few bits of a sweet cereal and some raisins.

Sits real nice on the tum and does me nicely until lunch.

porridge with honey and dried fruit or banana [or both!] is lovely and very good for you and keeps the hunger at bay easily until lunchtime
i do toast too with peanut butter and marmite [though not together!]

I rarely have cereal - I don't drink milk (only a touch in my tea) so I will have cereal dry and it takes long time to eat without milk

I'm like that.

I'm not a huge fan of milk, so soggy cereal is the last thing I want!

It gives me a good sweet hit to wake me up. It gets the old bowels going as well. Muffins and toast are too dry.

Nuke the milk in the micro-wave and add to dry cereal. In the old days, that's how my mum did it in winter, but we didn't have snow here way back then.

I don't think it fills you up, and then you end up reaching for junk at 10.30.

I have 2 dessert spoons natural full fat greek bio yogurt, with 1/2 banana, teaspoon of good honey and 5 walnuts. Keeps me full until lunch even after my 4 mile walk into work.

Doesn't fill me either, If I had it when I'm up at 5.30, I'm hungry by the time work starts at 7

I have a bowl of Muesli with milk, followed by a banana and a mug of coffee and it sets me up for the day. It gives me energy to get thro' the morning without snacking, and as already pointed out helps keep you regular. Since we eat so much processed foods in western diets many of us simply don't get enough fibre with the associated health risks that that leads to, what better way to kick start your fibre intake than with a bowl full of the stuff.

I hate the feel of cold milk on my teeth in the morning and I have to agree with others, cereal doesn't fill you up and even worse I think it starts me off on a sugar cycle. Even porridge, which I love, doesn't seem to keep me filled up for long.

I had a bowl of cornflakes with hot milk on Sunday morning...haven't had that since I was a child.
The hot milk makes them go soggy and chewy - and they were bloomin delicious!!

A friend of mine takes their cereal with orange juice which seems revolting to me. I avoid cereal because I hate milk, but there doesn't seem to be a normal alternative!

My flatmate has complained about my cost-cutting. I got him a box of own-brand crunchy nut cornflakes as they were so much cheaper than the Kellogs variety, but he says he doesnt like them as they stay crispy in the milk!

Ooooo, I like yoghurt. Never thought of having that with cereal before! I think that would be expensive though as you'd probably need 2-3 cartons of it per bowl?

For me the attraction is along the same lines as LQS, namely the minimal preparation, the fact that the cereals I eat are reasonably low calorie and because I like something with a bit of crunch that time of the day. I never seem to fancy a piece of toast in the morning for some reason. When I have time I do make porridge, particularly this time of the year.

On a cold morning you can't beat a bowl of Scott's Porage Oats.

I prefer to make it with water with a pinch of salt added.

I pour a little cold milk onto it after having let it cool down for 2 minutes after cooking.

Eeeew!

The idea of soggyness just puts me off food until at least lunchtime!
