attn: those who ordered Motorolas at Kays
Just noticed that the delivery time has gone up from two weeks (which it said yesterday) to 4-5 weeks.
Still considering whether to cancel - I could probably get a v300 well before Xmas. Check your account anyway, just in case. |

Update:
mobilesuk.net are selling the v500 for 115 - £30 cheaper than Kays even after the 20% offer. They say they are due in within 5 days. Just FYI if anyone is looking to save some cash. |

Just so everyone knows, the Mobilesuk.net website now says that the v500 won't be available till January on Orange!

By the way, the phone number on the emails is an 0870 but there is a freephone line to cancel or query a order: 08000 194195

Just got an e-mail from mobilesuk saying there were "voiding" all orders for the 3 phones they won't have till January. I sent them an e-mail confirming I wanted to cancel anyway, just in case...
Pretty good customer service from them though, I might go back when they get some in anyway... Guess that's me back to square 1! So ants, seems like you've done a lot of homework on the best phones for the money, what phone do you think I should get instead? Not sure if I want to go for the T610 because it's only a 4k colour screen, while the V500 had 65k, plus I kinda wanted a clamshell design... Problem is, I don't really want to spend much more than I would've on the V500! I'd go up to about £150, maybe a bit more if the phone was really amazing.... Everyone else is welcome to reply as well, but doesn't seem like anyone is reading this thread apart from us! |

the T610 has a 65k screen not a 4k read up on the product before posting.

I have no problem admitting you are correct about the number of colours on a T610, I was confusing it with the 7250i. WIth regards to the second part of your post, it is neither contructive, nor does it add anything to the discussion. From doing some reading (as you suggested) I have noticed that this is the case for a large number of your posts: you're happy to volunteer information, but only if you can add in an insult, Quote:

You make the same mistake every single time! Even more shocking considering it says it at the bottom of the page... As a side note, your correction on the number of colours the T610 has didn't help me as, if you re-read my post, you'll find that I had also discounted the T610 on the grounds that it wasn't a clamshell design. Regards. |

Everyone else is welcome to reply as well, but doesn't seem like anyone is reading this thread apart from us! I only know what I know because I can only afford to buy one phone so it has to be a good one! I want bluetooth and a camera so the T610 was an obvious alternative. I kinda wanted a speakerphone for the car - this is the only thing the T610 doesn't have. But it does have good (proven) Java support, and good bluetooth range (bluejacking!!). I don't know if it has Wireless Village like the v500, but if you don't know anyone else with a compatible phone, you might as well use MSN over WAP instead. Other alternatives: - Siemens MC60 and Sagem MYX-6 both have cameras, they are about £100... I dont know much about the MC60 (except it's on T-Mobile who I wouldn't touch) but I know the Sagem is very 'thick' and chunky to hold. - The 7250i has a decent camera, no bluetooth, and is not a clamshell. A bit over your (our) budget. - The v300 is out now on contract, and should be on PAYG for Xmas (so I heard but I also heard some were being withdrawn because of faulty keypads so maybe not). Clamshell but no BT. About £160 from the Link with £20 T-Mobile airtime thrown in. Not great value IMO and I saw a display model last Friday in CPW which was already really bashed up. - The z600 has both BT and camera and is a clam but is only on contract (for now). - The forthcoming z200 is a clam but has no bluetooth. So for PAYG bluetooth and camera I think the T610 is the only option. You can pick them up for £149.99 from mobilesUK or get Carphone Warehouse to pricematch - useful if you want the option of trying it out and maybe returning it. They only had 2 more in stock this afternoon (over the phone) and all the shops in my area are sold out, though, so move fast if you want one. The screen is 65k but is apparently hard to see in bright light - this has been fixed with the T630 which is due next year, but I guess it will be expensive. I can live with it, not much bright light where I live anyway The Sony software can be slow and the joystick is a bit of a pain in th arse, at least it was on my old T300, but most people who have T610s really seem to swear by them. They also have the advantage of being easily unlocked and reflashed if you want (updating the firmware and getting rid of the Orange customisation). I also wanted a clamshell but to be honest I think they are going to go out of fashion again quite soon and will look quite dated by this time next year (if this is something that bothers you). My T610 will be here tomorrow so I will hopefully be able to give you a run-down. |

Thanks for the reply ants, good summary there!
You're looking for the same things as me really: good colour screen, decent camera, bluetooth (prob won't use it much now, but will come in handy in the future). I'm looking for a small phone, so that pretty much rules out the MYX-6 & I've also heard bad things about the MC60, even though it is pretty cheap. The v300 seems pretty expensive considering you can get the v500 in January (supposedly) for less, so not really ocnsidering that. I was thinking about the Z600, but I'm not that sure about the strange covers (they look strange on the website anyway) & I think they're a bit too expensive for me as well. My flatmate's got a T610 & she likes it but I think they look a bit funny, something to do with size of the screen compared to the body & the fact that the top half is shiny black... I'm almost tempted just to wait till January & get the v500 (since I've ordered it twice already, then had to cancel!) but what you said about clamshells going out of fashion does sound true since I remember it happening before with v50s, etc... I wait for your thoughts on the T610 tommorrow before deciding I guess. |

I've been playing with the T610 for a while now and I really like it. I'm certain this was a better choice than the v500. The software is not as slow as I had expected and the camera refresh and clarity is great - I'm comparing to my old 3G phone here BTW! It's a very solid, small little phone and seems reasonably easy to use.
If you want to know more let me know, although I'm sure there are plenty of more experienced T610 users out there. Go for it though, if you can bear the lack of clamshell, I don't think you'll regret it. |

Ok, just ordered one from mobilesuk.net for £150, though I noticed afterwards you can get them for £145 on orangedealer.co.uk
They said I'll get it tommorrow so that should be good. Ah well, just need to get it unlocked now... ![]() Btw, is the software branded (orange menus) like someone in another thread suggested it would be? I guess if we change our mind about the phone come january we could probably sell them for about £115 anyway... Thanks a lot for the help, would've been pretty unsure of which one to go for otherwise! |

Yup I still really like it and my boyfriend (techo-phobe) has been taking photos all the way home from work
he hates mobiles but commented (unprompted) that he likes the look and feel of the T610.The only small niggle is the shutter speed of the camera is a bit slower than my e808 was, but if you have it set on small picture size, it's bearable. Photos a bit more blurry now, either the battery is going flat or I've put my finger over the lens by accident and put a fingerprint on it. Let me know if you find any cheap "invisible" cases - I have a feeling it will scratch very easily. |

I think it might free up a few more K of memory but not sure. I know with my T300 even when you deleted the preinstalled images they never really disappeared! I do think it would be worth getting the firmware upgraded on mine because the camera is quite blurry (although I haven't been able to check the pics on a PC yet) and apparently the new firmware fixes this. Still not sure where my nearest SE centre is, but the flashing should be free when I find it (!). It apparently improves menu speed too, which is already OK IMO. Haven't found a decent cheap BT dongle or headset yet either, or a case... still lots to do! |

Thanks
Doesn't say anything about Mac compatibility tho so I'm not sure if I should take the plunge. I found a D-Link for £27ishhttp://www.easyetrader.com/kelkoo.php?ec=53637 Mac compatible but I'd like it to be more like £20 than £30

Think there's a SE service center quite close to where I live, but as far as I know they won't remove branding...
Is it difficult to do? What can actually use bluetooth for anyway? I like the idea of bluejacking, but looking for some practical applications... |

Did you get your phone OK?
Bluetooth - you can send/receive contacts, pictures, tones, etc from phone to phone, phone to computer, computer to PDA, you get the idea... usually within a 10 metre range. You can also send pictures from a bluetooth camera to a bluetooth phone or printer, or a computer, etc. And of course, there are headsets so you can control the phone from the headset, or use the headset with your computer. With a Mac you can use Bluetooth as Caller Display - when the phone rings, the caller number and name also pops up on the screen. You can also text via the computer thru the phone or use the phone as a dial up modem. I'm sure a PC will do it with the right shareware. Apple now make Bluetooth keyboards and mice as well - they are really into the technology. If you're lucky and find a bluetooth printer out and about e.g. in a phone shop or photo printing place, you can send it a picture or phone book contact anonymously from your phone- the printer will quite often spit it out immediately, leaving everyone else in the area quite puzzled ![]() As for branding, I'm not absolutely sure that a firmware upgrade will get rid of it. It might, or it might be a separate service. I do know that SE centres can reflash, unlock (for a fee?) and remove branding whereas independent unlockers can only do the latter two - they can't upgrade firmware. Most Carphone Warehouse repair centres are able to reflash, but I don't know where you stand if you haven't bought from them. But for the first year you can get the reflash done by SE service centres for nothing, although they are obviously not as common as CPW stores. |

Went down, still couldn't find it & then claimed the postman might've dropped it off at a sub-branch since they don't specifically need to take back to the main PO. Seemingly it should be returned to the main PO later tonight & they'll deliver it again tommorrow... Great. ![]() Ordered the dongle (who the the hell thought that was a good name for it!?) metioned by PreZiCion, look pretty good & has 200m range. Think the phone can only do up to 10m (like you said), but you never know... ![]() Downloaded a lot of good software that I'm gonna try when I get the phone & dongle from here: http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/en/s..._windows.shtml & here: http://www.christersson.org/software.php Looking forward to trying out the PC control thing from the second site... ![]() Do you know if it's latest firmware that comes with the phone since I only just bought it? Could you check yours & let me know what it is? (Find out how to check it here: http://www.expansys.com/forumthread....610&thread=161) I found out where my nearest SE centre is anyway so gonna go there, get it upgraded, maybe unlocked depending on cost & ask them (nicely) to de-brand it, dunno if they'll do it though... I'm as well getting it done as soon as I get it because flashing it erases everything on the phone (not saved on sim card, that is), so bear that in mind if your thinking about doing it. There's prog on the second site for backing up info from the phone but the T610 isn't listed as one of the compatible phones. Gonna try it anyway though! |

My firmware is R1L013 - the latest is R3C002 (new release in early October). I'm not bothered about erasing everything, it shouldn't erase *everything* but regardless, all my contacts are backed up on the SIM (you can copy back and forth). I'm a bit disillusioned with the camera speed but let's see if this fixes anything - apparently it should. If not it might go back. We'll see.
Good luck with the posties... the City Link driver that brought mine wanted to throw it up to my first-floor window
