This is obvious when you think of it, but you might not think of it.

When recording BBC 1, it is better to record from BBC London (or BBC NI) than other regions. This is because doing so will allow you to also watch BBC 2 London, BBC Three, BBC Four and Five if you record something else at the same time.

Similarly, recording BBC 2 England (rather than Wales, Scotland, or NI) will always give you access to BBC 1 London (or NI), BBC Three, BBC Four and Five.

Some BBC regions broadcast at a significantly higher bit rate than others so presumably have higher picture quality. From memory BBC One London is about the worst & BBC One Scotland or NI among the best.

Similar dodge. If you wan't to record a BBC HD/SD simulcast (say you wan't to archive SD and watch in HD). Set your 108 recording to HD and set SD from 951 BBC CI. (If you happen to be in the CI use 954 BBC 1 East). As both recordings on same transponder you can also watch any other channel (sadly not record it even though you can pause it)

Perhaps I'm just in a pedantic humour today, but if you are happen to be in the CI, couldn't you use 101?

Deleted rubbish yes of course you could - silly me. Well I think you could. Anyone tried to set a HD and SD recording using lcn 101 and 108.

Just tried no problem with setting two reservations. Set the first from 108. Set the second from 101. Interestingly the box offered to record in HD on the following day when setting from 101. It's clever enough to stop you recording BBC HD twice at the same time.
