Aego M wireless remote...
Help! I've just bought an AE Aego M subwoofer and satellite speakers to improve the sound of my LCD television.
But the add-on sound system lacks a remote control and, despite many searches on the 'net, I've not found anyone who manufactures such a device. The system is connected to the TV via the headphone socket and I've tried using an iPod-type wireless remote - a Targus Remote Tunes device - to achieve wireless control of the audio. But I cannot think of any way of doing this without using an iPod, which I neither possess nor want. If anyone can come up with a solution for this I would be extremely grateful as, I'm sure, would many other owners of the Aego M system. Cheers, Steve. I'm a bit surprised that the headphone socket doesn't give you the volume control you need. I would expect it to mute the TV speakers and then allow the TV remote to change the volume level.
Tell me what happens when you plug in the headphone jack and change the TV volume... |

"I go" - but do you?!!!
Thanks for the reply, Chris; it's much appreciated.
No, unfortunately, when I plug in the "headphones" - in this case the Aego speaker system - the audio from the television's speakers is NOT muted I, too, would have expected it to do this. But... Cheers, Steve. |

Headphones not muting the speakers - that's odd. Private listening without disturbing others is the whole point of using headphones. Is the feature adjustable in the menus at all?

Aego
Ta, Chris. Just to explain a little bit further about my set-up...
I can silence the TV speaker sound, of course, by either pressing the remote's "mute" button or by turning the volume off completely. The output from the headphone socket can be controlled from the television's RC, but I have to go into the sound menu each time to do this; this requires three button presses. If the 'phone rings, for instance, it's a pain having to enter the menu to turn down the volume. The Aego M system sounds excellent, apart from displaying a little bit too much bass even on its lowest setting, but the ability to be able to control its output from a separate RC (such as the iPod-type I've already bought for less than £5, inc. post and packing) would be the ideal. 73, Steve. |

Thanks for the additional info. Very useful.
This will do what you want without taking up too much space. Keene VRC remote volume control link You can also use it to get get better quality sound to the speakers. If tyour TV has an audio output (could be phonos or via a SCART) then that will give a cleaner signal than the headphone amp in the TV. I haven't come across anyone making something similar, so finding something cheaper might be a bit of a struggle. The other alternative is to find a second-hand AV amp that has pre-outs for connecting an external power amp, but in your case it will be the speakers. You'll save £10-£20 but its going to involve a lot of research on your part checking specifications from what's on sale in classifieds and online. Regards |

Aego solution...
Thanks, Chris.
The Keene unit sounds perfect, if a little expensive, but when there's a monopoly of one...! I'll buy one and let you know how it performs. Cheers, Steve.
