Thanks in advance for your advice.

We purchased a Grundig 19" LCD with a built-in DVD player a year ago for £250.00

It's since gone faulty and we were having problems with the DVD not recognising the discs. The store has offered a full refund.

We have decided to avoid 'combi' type TV's next time we purchase. Probably a stand alone DVD/Blueray would be more suitable to accompany the new TV.

What TV for £250.00 would you recommend (the DVD player would not be included in this price)?

Cheers

(extended cover would be a consideration too)

You don't really mention what you want in terms of size, but a quick look around found the following:

A 22" Samsung for £ 245.

A 19" Toshiba for £ 245

Both are reasonable brands and I wouldn't worry about extending the warranty on either of these. Sets with on board DVD players do seem to suffer from worse reliability than those without.

If you wanted a 'premium' brand then you'd be looking at a Panasonic or Sony, but they will be more expensive than either of the above.

Hope this helps.

Bear in mind Toshiba don't make their own smaller sets, they just buy cheap rubbish and badge it - a 19" Toshiba is likely to be the same cheap set as most of the others.

I bought this set for my mother about 6 weeks ago.. very easy to set up, good sound quality, decent picture quality too..

We're struggling with the reception on the digital channels but that's our area/aerial and not a reflection at all on the tv - I took it over the road where they've got a wideband (I think it's wideband) aerial and the reception was faultless.. and it was pretty windy that night too
