Is anyone managing to back up/convert the video files from the Humax Foxsat HDR to write to a dvd to be played on a dvd player using an Apple Mac. Handbrake? idvd?

Any advice appreciated.

I have burnt the dvd using toast 9 drop the .ts file in create dvd
toast does it all i.e. demuxes the file and creates Video TS folder and Audio TS folders. It also puts time markers every 5 Mins same as commercial DVD recorders and then burns the dvd. I have not tried recordings with HD on Blue ray yet. The only problem is it takes time i.e. a feature length of 1H 45 Mins takes as long as 4 hrs. The beauty is that all the recordings on BBC and CH 4 Channels start at the right time so you dont have to edit the starts

That's great. I need to get an updated Toast (only using version 5). What is the quality like compared with the original for say 105 min movie?

I managed to use handbrake to convert to a .avi file xdiv but had trouble with the anamorphic with the resulting picture when played on the dvd player with big black side bars - all squashed. Then tried not anamorphic and kept the aspect ratio but this resulted in fewer lines and loss of quality.

The quality is very good. I have tried the Film 4 movie and BBC 2 Movie they are both perfect since the conversion is digital to digital. You will find Toast 9 a lot more powerful then version 9.0. You can master a blue Ray disc and play it on PS3 or Blue Ray DVD player. You have to pay a bit extra to support BD discs and of course you need a BD RW drive.

Have you used Toast to convert radio programs? Handbrake won't recognise the file if it has no video in it. Or do you know of other 'free' mac software that will convert radio programs to apple format aac or mp3. Cheers.

I have tried it if you want audio CD then you have to use VLC or similar to export audio as wav file. I tried Archers yesterday and no problems. If you want dvd audio then you can use toast and write it as DVD.
