BT mobilesaver 12 month auto renewing contract
Anyone else had fun and games with this? I signed up for BT's mobilesaver for 12 months about 18 months ago as at the time I (or rather my housemate) was making quite a few mobile calls from the landline. Since then I have moved my calls to Sky and didn't think anything more of it...
More recently I decided to move my line rental to Sky too to save a bit more money and was shocked when BT sent me a letter in which they reckoned I would owe them about £75 upon disconnection! When I phoned them up they claimed I was still within a 12 month contract due to mobilesaver. I pointed out it was well over a year since I'd had that and they claimed it was an auto renewing 12 month contract and that they had sent me a letter prior to the renewal offering me not to renew. Well I had never received any letter and had not been aware that the contract auto renewed anyway - if I had I never would have allowed it to do so as I wasn't even using BT for calls anymore! The lady I spoke to eventually accepted that I hadn't received the letter and said she would add a note to the account "requesting that the charges not be applied" - which wasn't exactly reassuring. It was only after a bit more protesting that she seemed to suggest that they definitely wouldn't be applied (or if they were that I could get them removed). Has anyone else had issues with this? I await to see if they try to charge the full £75! Seems a bit outrageous that they can apparently lock you into another 12 months automatically without you even realising. |

Surely that's a load of rubbish. When you signed up did it say auto-renewing contract?

I got a letter saying if I did not telephone them within 14 days, the contract would automatically renew.
