USB format

Hi there, just got my foxsat HDR and I want to test transferring files from the foxsat to my PC or Laptop with a USB stick. I have a couple of questions.

1) Is it true the USB stick will need to be formatted as EXT3 and not FAT?
2) How, in Vista or XP does one format the drive as EXT3?
3) Will Vista be able to read that USB Stick then after the files are transferred?

Cheers

Hi

Format Fat32 without having to resort to running UNIX utilities on Windows box

I formated a USB 120Mb drive and copied files OK

Run film from on HDR from USB drive worked OK

Run film from PC from USB drive on PC (using VLC player ) worked OK

Works with FAT with files up to 4Gb. To format EXT3 best way is to make a linux start up CD for your PC. User friendly version at

Do any of the partition types offered to change a drive to in Ext2 Volume Manager work?

I'm not sure what your question actually means, but if it's about viewing ext2/3 partitions in Windows, then the latest ext2fs driver now actually works even though the HDR doesn't unmount the drive properly.

Sorry, my post was not very clear.

What I am trying to do is from a Windows Vista PC is to change the partition type of an external 1Tb USB disc from Fat32 to EXT3 or the like that HDR will happily copy large files to.

The Ext2 Volume Manager Program seems to offer many Partition Types (Press F12 on lected drive) but none of the types are just called Ext3

Can this program be used to do the trick or does one have to boot with anouther operating system?

Many thanks for any help

Ah, I see what you mean now.

Yes, there appears to be all sorts of partition options offered but not Ext2 or 3.

I wouldn't trust it to do it anyway, although i'm not an expert on that software, I just use it under Vista to view files on my already ext3 partitioned drive.

I would recommend doing it with the Slax Live CD with the excellent instructions privided by Graham. I'm a Linux dummy, and I found it very easy.

Rgds.
