What TV are you connecting it to?

For £40, unless your TV has a seriously garbage upscaler (not many do these days), you're not going to get a DVD player that does a better job.

Ah right.

Yup. I think you'd have to search VERY hard to find an HD TV that doesn't have a built in upscaler now.

Obviously, their quality varies, but most are pretty decent with the better makes (Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung etc etc) being quite good .... certainly as good as any DVD player in the sub £100 price range.

You do a better job than their built in ones (it can be done) you're looking at spending a couple of hundred at least. If you have a look on superfi, you'll see the type of player I'm on about ....

A HD tv will upscale everything to it's native resolution otherwise the picture would not fill the screen.

Cheap upscaling dvd players are a gimmick.

Might give that a try. Tried the SCART and sound fine. Either it the lead or I done the settings wrong or the TV not HDMI-compliance to certain players.
