Have now got a new problem with this machine to add to the many others I have had over the last year.

Solved most of them but this has me foxed.

Yesterday and today programmes are freezing in mid programme and nothing other than rebooting will start it again. However, give it a little while and the same thing happens the gap between each episode seems to be reducing too.

This obviously has resulted in failed recordings also.

Any plain language suggestions please?

We have had one of these for 2 months. We use it quite a bit and thus far it has been good, but just recently I have started to see occasional jerks in live tv, and yesterday it froze when playing a program. I rebooted it and it came back OK..


Now, I wonder? I figure this thing spends all its time recording the live tv (even if you didn't ask for it). It does that so you can do a pause or possibly rewind time a bit. If you compare the live TV through the box with live tv through a plain freeview receiver, the 6300 is a little bit later. This makes me suspect it writes to disk then reads it back even in live tv mode.

OK, so what happens when you start surfing channels. It has to tag a new file start on disk, and start a new recording for each new channel, then abort it as you move on.

So - I wonder if normal use (not even recording programs) builds up a fragmented file system on the disk as a result of all this foolishness. If so I could forgive it for crashing if its disk is full of tiny segments of stuff that we don't want an are unaware of.

One of the fixes I have read here is to reformat the disk. I can see how that might fix it, but you would lose all your recordings that way.. So I wonder if there is a de-fragment option lurking in the secret menus anywhere. Has anyone with a Linux system tried such a trick??

This worked for me. Few months later and it is still only freezing very occassionally. Maybe once a fortnight maximum, rather than 2 or 3 times an hour!

I just returned my 4th and last one to Tesco today. They tell me the item is discontinued. I had to power down and on again usually 2/3 times a week.

The worst fault happens when all you do is rewind live TV and it locks up.
